Default Need advice, two preludes but I have to choose one.

Hi everyone, I am new to the forum. (obviously) I hate to do this kind of thing because I know it comes up a lot but I need advice on my specific situation. I have searched a lot so I know mostly what the difference is but I am selling/trading my eclipse for two possible preludes here is the deal:

Prelude one is white '01 base 5 spd w/ 61000 miles on it. It has HID headlights and the paint has been wet sanded, buffed, waxed and sealed professionally. It looks basically new. It also has tinted windows.

Prelude two is also a '01, white but it is an SH w/ 47000 miles. No mods or add ons at all. It has a few door dings and rock chips, nothing out of the ordinary.

both cars have been very well taken care of. I am looking for a good reliable DD that has more power than a regular accord or civic. The most I would ever mod is intake and exhaust. So what do you guys think I should go for?

I would probably go with the base. Getting paint fixed is expensive. And the SH atts system get in the way down the road if you plan on modding. Alot of tings are made only for the base model.

I would go and drive both, whice ever one feels like its in better shape.

G2IntegraGS makes a good point. I would lean towards the lower mileage and ATTS, but then again I wouldn't be doing any serious modding.

If these are one owner vehicles you might want to ask them if they have any documentation as to repairs/maintenance. But if the base model has just had timing belt/water pump done, I'd say go for that... and its probably shinier anyway. Though I wouldn't let the paint finish be much more than an added bonus. Your primary focus should be the car's mechanical condition.

All coming from a guy who's 4th gen is in the shop... with an unpainted bumper.

Lowsy spelling.

Well the SH does not have bad paint at all, I am just saying that it has average paint where as the other one has exceptional, the SH would not need any repair it is just not as nice :-) both are very well documented, and both would cost me the exact same as far as money. Like I said the only modding I would ever do performance wise would be intake and exhaust. I also forgot to mention the SH has factory leather seats and I know the guy who has it.

Because your not planning on heavy mods, i say go for the Type SH. It handles better, has nicer rims (well at least in my opinion vs the base model), plus it has lower mileage. I have a base model but im heavily modded, but if my plans were like yours, like i said SH.

Yeah in your situation, with not many mods in mind, get the SH. Lower miles, handles better, has the factory skirt kit, better wheels etc. If you really want it to look nice, pay a few hundred bucks to have it detailed and clay bar'd or color sanded, and waxed well.

And hopefully welcome to the world of Prelude ownership!

Is there any issues with the ATTS in long term reliability? Is the base model more reliable?

Wow, I almost had an idiot moment..

But anyway, I'd say go with the SH. My ex bf had one and as much as I jokingly teased him about it being a "girly car", it really was pretty badass.. handling was esp great. I was secretly envious, haha.

Good luck with whichever you choose

go with the SH, as for the average paint.. go get it professionally detailed and for the dings get paintless dent removal. pretty simple if u ask me. why can't u just work the price for either one and see who bites for lower? thats a pretty foolproof plan imo

Well it looks like the deal with the base model fell through. So it looks like I am going to get the SH for the same amount of money I would have spent on the base. Any last suggestions?

The SH model prelude is a great car with awesome handling. Keep it nice and simple.

I LOVE MY SH!

excellent choice! When I bought my prelude, I looked for ONLY a white SH. The lower milage is a bonus too, as well as all the lil perks you get w/the SH (painted side skirts, ATTS, courtesy lights on the doors, better wheels, spoiler, etc).

You're going to enjoy it! Only thing different w/the SH is that you should change the ATTS fluid (w/ATF) every 60k miles I believe. Although, I'm at 104k and I track my car and have never changed it yet

people say that, but i've been modding mine for the past 4 years I've had her and haven't run into any problems modding it due to the fact that it's a SH. I'm staying n/a, so what are all these "problems" people claim they have modding the SH vs the base?

I wasn't aware until I asked around that tuning was a problem with the SH, as I have never tuned mine. But my question was more what problems are people running into w/modifications on the SH. I did run a VAFC for a lil while, but due to a poor installation and having jacked up wiring, I pulled it and sold it.
