Default can't figure out water leak on '99 Civic SiR coupe

Hi all, I am new to this forum. I tried on other forums to search for the solution to my problem but unsuccessful. Anyways, I have a problem with my '99 Civic SiR coupe (EM1). Somehow water is entering the front passenger side floor. It's very noticeable after a period of rain and even after a car wash water still leaks in since i have the carpet up.

I can't figure out exactly where the leak is. For the time being, I put some towels underneath the carpet to try to soak up the water when there is.

What should I check for?

Has anyone had the same or similar problem as to mine? If so, what did you do to resolve it?

Any suggestions is appreciated. Thanks.

The best thing to do would be to take out as much of the interior and carpet that you can, get a friend to hose water on your car, and trace it from there.
This is a lot of work though, so hopefully there is a common problem that someone else can give insight on.

It definitely only happens when it rains or the car gets washed?

When I usually hear of this problem it usually has to do with the drain on the evaporator becoming unplugged or clogged. I suppose a moonroof drain could be leaking in there too perhaps.

I would check out the sunroof drain in that corner. I have seen instances where water freezes inside the tube and pops it out of place. Good Luck

Just in case this can ever help anyone else.

(10:41 PM 8/1/2008) mugenpower88: hi there, thanks for replying on my thread. so i have a water leak on my Civic Coupe. you said about the drain on the evaporator becoming unplugged or clogged."

what is the evaporator and how does it looks like?

thanks

(10:54 PM 8/1/2008) NOFX: The evaporator is part of the air conditioning system. I've only ever heard of this being a problem though. Never seen it myself or had to fix it.

i have had a similar issue on a 93 sol and a little on my 1998 hx, here is the deal, check the ability for water that enters the cowl, [air intake for climate] below the windshield, sheck its ability to drain/ shed the water away from the blower motor. i had it where on the 1993 sol, becuase a cheapo windshield job was done, water could enter 2 ways fromt he seam of the plastic cowl and the metal body or by hopping a smashed down riser little incline that kept water out, for me, i would go through a car wahs, see drips from the blower motor, and when i switch it on, you could hear the water sloshing on the fan blades of the blower for a little. this also explained the cause for the blower used to squeal on high, becuase water washed out the blowers shaft bushings/bearings. so i ended up finding the OE style foam strip that has adhesive on ine side, and doing the bottom of the entire cowl, and tweaking the riser, and no more water gets in unless you flood a lot in there, more than i think typical mother nature can dump in a good downpour. o and this problem was more prevailent when the car was sitting.

There are just so many places that it could come from. I think the idea of stripping the carpet from that area might be a good idea until the OP figures out the cause.
