yeah it's a civic cluster for an auto, though it'll work with a manual - its what I've got in my car. Little lights in the center don't light up

you sure you have the right wire? it should be yellow with a white stripe. i almost mixed mine up because i saw two seemingly identical solid yellow wires, but upon very close inspection there was a faint white line on one of those yellow wires.

just put some gas in there and now it's recognizing the gas. do you know if the tanks are different size? does that even matter at all haha?

edit: tmw im gonna put in the original tach and see how that goes with the gas meter.

How can you tell which Si Cluster is from an 88/89 or 90/91? Is there a code on it?

I don't know if this will be helpful, but I've just been dealing with a gauge assembly swap (from a 90 Civic EX) into my 91 DX Sedan. The pinouts are the same between the 90 and the 91, even though my original is no tachometer and the 90 has the tach. There is an 8-pin connector on the left side (looking at the back) and a 12-pin on the right side. My 91 no-tach assembly is part no. HR1 14-509 and it has a date stamp in May '91, and the printed circuit stuck to the back has "HR-0114" on it. The older one has "HR-0115" on the printed circuit. They both have the "NS" logo (for Nippon Seiki) on the printed circuit. I think there was another supplier for these but I have never seen one.

My replacement had a bad coolant temp gauge I could not fix or replace (the pointer will not come off the spindle/bobbin without destroying it) so I'm continuing to futz with it.

Don't put too much stock in the wire colors coming into the multipin connectors--mine were all wrong, dont match up with what the factory manual said they should be. But at least between the 90 Nippon Seiki and the 91 Nippon Seiki, the PC connections are identical.

the 88-89 is squared off and much shorter, while the 90-91 is rounded.

the actual cluster. the older ones look like a rectangle , whereas the newer ones are very round<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by jaje &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">

I've been reading up on these and found that not only are the shapes slightly different but so are the actual gauge clusters themselves.

The Tachometer is the same on both - the Speedo is very close but the fuel/temp gauge sections are very different as are the bottom warning lights (8 on one and 10 on the other).

Here's a pic of what I think is a 88-89 Si Gauge Cluster Front

Hello All,

I've got a 1989 Civic Wagon that came with a cluster exactly like the one Jaje posted (88-89 Si right?).

Is there any chance that this cluster came with the Wagovan or did someone swap it in?

Also, would the 88-89 Si or CRX clusters come with the automatic gear indicators between the Temp and Fuel gague like the 90-91?

Thanks All,

Keith

alright. well my cluster here has a couple extra bits to it thats making things a little difficult to follow some of the guides to do my swap to a s2000 ap1, not like there is even a guide for that anywhere in the first place so im having to cross reference a few of the guides just to get this to work. anyhow, looking at pinouts for my 90 crx hf cluster, i keep coming across clusters with 2 plugs. my issues is i have a port for a green plug that looks to have been in use when i pulled it off as well as wires coming out of the bottom that were connected to a bulb and a small black box no more then a couple inches in size. i know the previous owner had done some strange things to the car already regarding the wiring. but can anyone tell me what thisplug is and if its suppose to be there and if so, possibly a pinout for it. thanks [IMG][/IMG]
