i just bought a shell recently and everything on it looks good...
it was just messing some odds and ends motor/tranny fuel pump
wheels and some other little things here and there
i swap a motor in.. that i know is still running good... i put everything
together that was messing with oem working part... when i go to
crank it nothing.. i try to turn the lights on nothing honk the horn nothing
it almost like the battery in not connect.. but it is and is new
any one know whats going on with this stupid car!!! the only thing the car
is messing now is a gauge cluster can that be it.. i was under the impression
that it would crank with out a cluster.. when i crank the car i don't hear
anything or see anything moving.. any help would be great..

ohh and all the wire under the dash looks stock /oem looks like it never
been touch... any advice to where i should star looking would be great thanks h-t

 

my first thought is check the battery, if that's still good you may have a short somewhere in the electrical harness.

 

Check under the hood for blown fuses and whether the ground wire of the battery is corroded or loosely connected to the body frame.

 

the battery is new so i now thats good..
i'll switch to a different harness and so what
happen


do anyone got the diagram for the fuse in the engine
bay and the interior???.. i'm messing both covers
and don't know what fuse i need but most of them
look like its there thank anyone else know what it could be??????

what kind of car do you have?

 

1994 honda civic coupe ex

 

i got to mess around with it a little today..

some how when i was messing around i got the headlight to turn on for a quick second but it
quickly died after that and i still can get power to anything
no horn no lights its kinda like the battery is not connect
i check the fuse in the bay and the 80a fuse for the
battery is still good.. i think im gonna have to rip out
the dash and see what it could be what else is
connect to the battery?? i'm gonna go get a cluster and put it on to maybe that could be it..

so for a quick wrap up this is whats going one

Test all the fuses for continuity using a multimeter and also make sure that they fit snuggly into their slot. If the fuses are fine, then the problem is with the battery, battery terminals, battery connectors, battery wires (positive or ground), or under-hood fuse box.

 

make sure that you have all 3 grounds.one to valve cover.transmission to frame,and battery to frame...

 

i'm gonna go do that now and report back

Which part were you messing around with? Most likely the short is in that area.

PS: It's pretty common if the terminals on the battery aren't 100%, for it not to work, and it sounds like thats your problem. Make sure they're clean and on there, and tight, 100%. I've had in the past a few times problems with my '95 EX because the battery terminals weren't PERFECT. You need to use a wire brush to clean both the terminals and the wires, and they need to be tight (no wiggle room), and fully pressed onto the posts.

yeah i did that and now it works i never thought that it could be that.. it looked good and i just overlooked it.. the battery was good but the connector to the battery had a little bit of surface rust on the inside and i just snapped it on with out checkind dumb me lol...

thanks you all i found out what was worng with it...

i clean the terminals and battery and the frame where the ground bolts on to..

i had no power cause there was a bit of rust on the terminal and where the ground bolt to the frame/car... i never thought a little surface rust could be the problem...

so thank you all and i feel good about buy this car now lol
