LoL
How many characters are in the VIN?
(The one on the dash, viewable by looking through the windshield on the driver-side)

That's a hard question, cause really it's only worth what someone will pay for it. Unless you find someone that really wants it, it's probably not worth more than any other civic.

I will have to get my friend to take a pic of the vin since its not at my house. Its not an EX its a VTI as I clearly posted and was imported from Canada.

There is no Canadian VTi either. There is a Canadian SiR coupe, but it's 1999-2000 only. The Canadian version of the US EX is called the Si.
The visuals indicate this would either be a Civic EX/Si or an Si/SiR (1999-2000 only). Either way, it being Canadian should not affect the price since they're basically still the same cars.
The Si/SiR would have rear disk brakes. I can't tell from the photos which it has though.
The red and white taillights shown in the photos were only available on 1999-2000 vehicles too. From the little I can see, it looks like this car has a 1996-1998 front end though.
"HA" is also not a US or Canadian engine block code. Nearly all countries use the X00X or X00X0 format for modern Honda engine codes.

All I am doing is going by what he told me and what I have seen. I called my friend when I was over there cause I didn't know anything about that car. The block clearly says HA on it and I know that for fact because I was looking right at it and talking on the phone with my friend Cory to ask him about it. As for the vin # I just texted my friend Craig who owns the car to send me pics of it along with the engine. When I looked at it, it was clearly a SOHC not a DOHC. Its very clean and the guy he purchased it from was a captain in the Navy in his unit and told him it was imported from Canada so thats what I know. I didn't look at the vin so I don't know any of the #s sorry.

And we're just telling you that it's unlikely it's a true VTi. VTi is a name used overseas, most often for hatches and sedans with B16As. There are a few European cars that might be called VTis that have SOHCs, but I'd have to check again.
If you send me the VIN I can tell you what Honda says it is.

Hey I don't know maybe it is, its not my car so I am not really concerned. Hopefully it is a real one, would be nice. I have noticed that there is SOHC VTIs but most VTIs are B16As and the SOHCs are not easy to find and I found most of them to be in 4dr cars.
Does anybody have any input as to the block saying HA on it?
Oh and thanks to the poster above for adding wonderful input to this thread!
Gotta love jackasses. Go post your little 2 year old comments in someone elses thread.

Anytime, guy
Who cares that the block says "HA" on it. I mean you said it's a SOHC, so it's not like it's some magical motor, or a magical car for that matter. Even if it turned out to be a real SOHC VTi, it still wouldn't command a pretty penny.
Why don't you get the VIN like twenty people have asked you for, and they can tell you, again, that the car is an EX?

Wow, Honda-Techs *******! Way to go, you just earned yourself a cookie!! And your a master at counting cause I didn't even notice 20 posts in this thread, damn your smart. But like I said, post your 2 year old comments in another thread there hero!
I just called him and he is sending me a pic of the vin #. As mentioned this isn't my car so I was merely asking about the value cause he was looking to sell it. It maybe an EX with a VTI badge, who knows but I would like to know more about this car myself anyways.

no VTi's come with SOHCs
the only VTi's are:
92 - 95, eg6 hatch = civic VTi b16a2
96 - 00, ek4 hatch = civic VTi b16a2, mb6 5 door = civic VTi b18c4

VTi and SiR are often used interchangeably (according to country). I always mix up if there is a SOHC VTi or SiR. That's what I was saying earlier.
To start off though, there are SOHC VTis. Though there is a little bit of common information on Honda forums, most of the information is left out. So everyone thinks an EK4 is a 1.6L DOHC hatchback only which was only sold in Japan. That would be wrong, but it doesn't stop the continual misinformation.
This would be a SOHC VTi:
http://www.civicforums.com/for....html
EK1s are hatchbacks with 1.6L SOHC VTEC-E engines. They even have available CVT transmissions like the US HX coupe, only they're hatchbacks.
Here's another type of SOHC VTi:
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/s...92531
His is an EJ8, pretty much the same as a US EX coupe, but in Australia they're called VTis.
Those are just a couple of examples, but there are more out there.
EDIT: Here's some info from Honda.
KQ is the country/emissions code for Australia (just like KE is UK and Ireland, KG is Germany and Holland and the US uses KA/KH/KL).

It is a 1998 Civic EX (as seen on carfax - enter the vin to see yourself) so you can look in the marketplace and other places to see what similar cars are going for and judge for yourself.

Well, I didn't want to spend money to see that because its not my car and I just got the vin from him. So, basically its not a VTI then? Sucks that he was lied to, haha.

just go to the carfax website and put the vin in, it will tell you what year, make and model the car is (for free) but wont tell you any further info about it (the main reason why people look at carfax - the part that costs money)
