It appears that I have mildew or mold or some kind of fungus growing in my coolant reservoir. the mold got up through the rubber hosing too. Then i checked the radiator and the mold was there too. AGHhhHh!!!!
is there anyway to remove this crap from my radiator???? Anyone else have this problem???This is the first time this has happened to me. What could have caused this?

Just my luck...I assume that this only happened to me. I just hope that whatever this crap is, that it won't hurt performance down the line.
What's the difference between mold and greenish sludge?
And do you teally think the mold would have survived in your radiator
(if the car's been running lately).
Just clean out the bottle and ... btw, when was the last time you changed the coolant?

thanks for the reply. I must have neglected changing it for like at least the past 3000 miles. I'm not sure if it is sludge or mold????It could be either. Actually when i look at it, there is like grit to it. it's not smooth like sludge or mold, it actually looks like green sand. can't explain it. I drive the car fairly often. The rubber hoses were filled with this junk. I would assume that running the car often would make it so this kind of thing would not happen, but nonetheless, how could this stuff survive in my cooling system when the coolant is so hot????Hmmmmmm....one can only begin to wonder what this mysterious sludge is......
lol, a new strain of mold that can withstand boiling temps
Just drain, flush a few times and put fresh stuff in there (using a *distilled* water and coolant mix) and recheck everything in a few months. If you see the same problem then, you might have other issues.

thanks for the help. I assume using tap water is bad because it has mineral deposits and other junk in there. Any other reason why not to use tap water?

water wetter is fine--tap water is a big no-no. use distilled water and distilled water only.
so where can you get distilled water? at the auto parts store or do you have to buy them in bottles at the grocery store?
