if you stay at 8psi use the stock head gasket, but if you run anymore than 8psi you have to lower the compression on a stock block...
p.s. make sure to get it tuned by a good tuner or your R will go boom

Stock head gasket is fine, I would however recommend ARP head studs. I've run 10psi or greater with about 300hp on stock blocks without any problems.
Do not use any kind of copper spray on the gasket as that will lead to failure.
I have both turbo and jrsc setups both at around 10psi without any problems.
Tuning is everything. be happy you have GREAT tuning options now (Hondata). I remember back when it was pressure switches linked to temp sensor wiring to make the car run richer, vafc hacks, rising rate fmu's. We live in the golden age of Honda tuning.

@ what point would you say your pushing it?
im in a similar situation, im going to be installing a vortech kit on my jdm type r motor, it is 11:1, stock bottom end and head besides camshafts and cam's how-ever ill be running 10psi pulley & alchy injection + cobra heat exchanger w/5 gallon water cell'
debating on wether or not to pull the head for head studs and a thicker head-gasket......i was only originally shooting for around 300whp but my tuner thinks ill be 325+whp range @ 10psi. motor has plenty of supporting mod's, last tune put down 200whp na'
think ill need headstuds and a thicker headgasket?
