PE timing belt update! Interesting trip to Charlotte
Finally got to check out what was wrong with the pe timing belt. Here is the original post. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=219072 It turns out that it was infact a bad installation, and that the belt was rubbing against the lower timing belt cover. It was rubbing so hard, it actually melted the side of the cover, and was also rubbing against one of the support tabs and melted that too. Willard checked out the tension, and determined that is wasn't tight enough, which was probably making it flap around and hit the cover. We inspected the old belt (only 2k miles on it), and it was still in great shape, other than the markings, i probably can still use it, but i decided not too cause we already took it out. New pe belt is in now with the correct tension, and the car sounds so much better at start up, no more chattering. But still have that jamn lumpy god damn goodness
. Anyway, just wanted to update you guys, PE belts are good
, buy them from Leo at JDM spec perf.
On a side note, i had quite the excursion down to charlotte. I was cruising down on i77 going ~ 80-90 mph (gotta love the 70mph speed limit), and 23 miles outside of charlotte, my car just dies. At this point im freaking out, thinking my timing belt snapped. Pulled over to the side of the road and cursed for 2 1/2 straight hours. So i roll over to will's place with with a bling bling tow truck @ 2 am in the morning and $115 lighter. Next day we check out the engine, timing belt was still intact, but loose. Will check the exhaust cam, and rotates its, seeing if the valves are in good shape. Checks out alright. Then he checks the intake cam. CRUNCH CRUNCH!! At this point im freaking out, thinking it was my valves. Will sets everything straight, corrects the tension and we try to start the engine, and the beotch would still not turn over. Will, being the great car investigator he is, checks the distributor and finds this sheet.
Turns out my rotor button in my distributor just failed, thus not allowing my sparks plugs to work, and it also focked up my distributor cap. God jam 30 dollar parts will get you every time!!
. Anyway, all is well now, so don't be hesitant to buy those pe belts, they are good sheet!

*Phew* Its finally good to hear something positive about timing belts. I'm glad the toda B's weren't the culprit. Its strange that honda can't even install a timing belt...
and to think... I was sober while working on your car this time....
, thank god for kool aid, it saved the day!Eric
.....glad to hear everything is ok!
*whew*
I installed my PE belt this past saturday around 4am (don't ask) and made sure it was tight as ****.
PE =
My oem/ stock belt was fine too - just looked a little weird. But I'm not running a cut valve cover anymore... too much debris in there fo sho!

Nice pics...Nice meeting you VTHokie! Pics don't do it justice when you see it actually come off the car...
Really? That is interesting, is this a common thing? How many miles did you have on your rotor?
Eric
Eric
Yeah, that's an ultra-common thing. Check your rotor button every 10k miles max... Or get a direct coil ignition.....
