What the longest you know a timing belt has lasted........
Hi Guys, Honda noob here, with a question on timing belts and water pumps. Just aquired a 95 with almost 200 k miles and the owner said he was the second owner and aquired the car at 100k miles. He said the timing belt and or water pump had never been changed.......is this possible. I was told one would be pushing it to get 100 k from a belt, must less 200k. I normally purchase replacement parts from the local parts house , but if the orignal Honda parts went this far, it would seem they would be worth the extra bucks...........any opiions please.
I would definately change it... If you don't you could set yourself up for a world of hurt.

there was a crx in a magazine thats still going for at least 450XXX miles on everything stock because the owner took care of it
...why risk it, compare the cost for the parts (if you can do it yourself) or even shop cost, which would be some where around 350 including waterpump and all that jazz. then think what it would cost to replace the head because your worn out old timing belt just happen to snap
PLUS timing belt, water pump and all that jazz

Oh, yes, I will change them ASAP. Just wondering how far some of them have gone. 250 k 450 k...wow.......I guess then the previous owner may be right that this one has lasted 200k

LOL, I wouldn't really call it "taking care of it" if you don't bother to change the timing belt/water pump at all.
That's just like saying my car lasted 50 000 miles without an oil change because I took great care of it.

f*** that.
I wash and wax my car two times a day...
My timing belt will last till infinity (and probably beyond).

Change your timing belt if you don't know when it was last done.

I had about 300k on a 91 civic STD model and it only broke because the original water pump broke (late at night in the middle of DC). My laziness cost me about $700.

It's overly excessive.. You're just building up excess wax residue on your car. Waxing your car doesn't really do much at all. cutting and buffing is the way to get real results, waxing is secondary.

My friend's 86 civic hatch died on him a few months ago cuz his timing belt broke on the freeway.. He just ended up getting another vehicle, not worth the effort to fix.
I changed mine in my EJ8 at 90k and the belt looked pretty worn and the waterpump was starting to leak. JUST IN TIME! But I've seen them last around 200k. Don't take any chances tho.
