Default CVT Question

Got a 97 HX CVT. Mine does what everyone's does but also it slips at a high speed, like 75+mph(that's what my gps say's, my spedo says 80+). I've seen some guru answers to every other cvt problem I've had on this forum but no one's ever touched on this.

This problem never fails to occur and usually I back off as soon as it slips, but once I got brave and let it slip at a not to high rev, like ~4k+ rpm(it slips @ 3.5K). It started rubber band grabbing, doing ever smaller rev bounces between 4k-5k until I broke the 80mph barrier and it was grabbing again.

Also, a minor less worrying question. After long 70+mph freeway stints for like 60-80 miles it's happened on occasion that I've slowed to a stop on an off-ramp only to immediately accelerate again. Upon acceleration there was no power but the effect was brief and I've just chalked it up to being a quirk of an old and uncared for CVT. If I'm wrong and it's something I should look into please tell me.

I don't know a lot about CVTs, but do you have a check engine light on? Autozone can check it or free if you need it checked.

Well, be wary of a problem that "fixes" itself. So I'd bet he either doesn't have the car or did a transmission swap or something.

It's been said often that CVT transmissions are prone to issues.
