I just bought a 92 Civic EX sedan with the intention of modding it (already have a nice s/c S2000 btw), and it has developed a loud ticking/clicking noise coming from the head (has to be valvetrain I'm thinking) which is only apparent at low rpm's (<3000). The engine has 167k on it and is a D16 with VTEC (sorry- not up on my engine codes atm).

If you rev the motor, it disappears. Normally, I wouldn't worry, but the clicking noise is quite loud. It occurs regardless of vehicle speed. It is engine speed-dependent only. Unfortunate, since, when I got the car, it idled so quiet you couldn't tell the car was running.

Anyone have an idea? Is this the beginning of the end for the motor?

PS - I forgot to mention that the car overheated briefly (approx 1-2 miles) before I noticed what was happening. Turns out the previous owner "forgot" to tell me it had a cracked plastic radiator. No evidence of head gasket failure, but this ticking sound did start a couple days later...

jus sounds like u need a valve adjustment....maybe get a video of the "clicking" if u can...and we could diagnose it better but otherwise...a valve adj. costs under $100 bux from a dealership or maybe u know somebody that could do it for u...
