Whats up to all..I just got a couple of engine questions because Im still new to engine problems.I own a 97 civic ex and while Im driving and get to 3500 rpms it makes a weird noise sort of sharp.Its cool b4 3500 and after but right at 3500 it makes this noise.Any idea of what this is?Also there is oil splashed under my wheel well is this a problem ? Any info is appreciated thanx

 

Is it the stock motor? Are you sure it is coming from the engine? More info would be helpful.

 

what area is the sound coming from? is it a grinding noise or a clank? more info

 

In the car it sounds like the exhaust is loose or something like a rattle only at 3500 rpms and usually only in first or second gear.With the hood up it sounds like its coming from the right side of the head only, everything else sounds fine.It might just need its maintenence because my boy has a 99 Ex and his makes a similiar sound I guess its distinct to the high rev of civivs but mine is higher pitched and has a rattle sound only from about 3400-3600rpms.Oh yeah my car is bone stock.Any and all help is appreciated thanx.oh yeah forget the oil thing i figured it out.

 

If it sounds like it's comming from the right side of the head, Give a good listen to the distributer. If it sounds crunchy, pull off the cap and see if there as a rusty residue inside. If so the upper bearing took a crap and it's time for a new distributor.
What was with the oil?

 

I checked the distributor no problem there its a clean as can be.Any or suggestions?Im going to chnge the oil and do lube job this friday.Other than that i dont know what it can be Im trying to avoid mechanics at all costs
