I knew as soon as I read the title that it would be an r6. The fuel tank is such that even in a light crash the tank will typically hit the ground and the material is thin so it busts right through dumping fuel onto a hot bike which = FIRE! Lots of r6's have had the exploding tank mod. I think all racing groups require tank protectors now. There's a reason I would never buy one of these new r6's. Even in a light crash like that they're done. In addition to the tank issues the subframe likes to rip completely off as well. Dealer to dumpster. yeeehaw

Is the fuel tank an issue on the 2008 R6 as well? My friend recently bought one and I would hate to see him lose his bike (or worse yet, his life

Looked like to much throttle coming out of the turn and bit it.

Exactly... rear end breaks loose(for what ever reason: dirt, throttle), rider chops the throttle and the tire grabs traction again, that loads the rear spring because of weight transfer. when the spring releases it shoots the bike upward and off goes rider
AKA High Side
If you're sitting in the saddle your going to go... if you extend your legs as the rear end is coming around and put more weight on the pegs, you may survive as the legs act as a buffer to the upward motion.

Thnx to Falcon

supposedly revised in the 08+ r6's, but i'd still buy tank protectors anyway.

Ouch! That sucks! It also appears man people were not looking through the turn because another guy went off too and a few damn near hit the crashed bike.
