My step dad installed an aftermarket stereo and now the dome light doesnt work unless it is all the way to the "ON" position. ALso. My power door locks no longer work like they did before. I now have to lock each door individually and the lock button inside is not working. Could it be a blown fuse or what? Im not sure what happened. He followed a wiring diagram. He couldnt find a constant power source for the stereo so he used the power that comes on only when the ignition is in the "ON" position. Everything was working before please help me. My email is tom_mcmullen06@yahoo.com you can contact me on yahoo messenger with that or cowboyboy2006 on AIM. I just really really need this fixed!
I'm baffled....all the aftermarket stereos I've installed in Preludes were plug&play with color-coded wires.
I would immediately remove the stereo and plug up the old one and see what happens (basic troubleshooting step that doesn't just apply to computers).

He cut the plug off that was on the original, factory unit so that he could hook up the wires to the back of the used stereo we got off of my truck. the memory doesnt stay in the radio either because there is no constant power. So I am completely totally stumped. OH. the speakers arent original either. not sure that matters or not. Im hoping it is just a fuse and nothing more serious. Im hoping that the antitheft on the old factory stereo isnt causing my problems.
Are you sure he only messed with the radio wires? I mean, all you have down there are the 8 wires for the speakers, the power antenna wire, and the constant power wire.

yes, IM sure thats all he messed with. he only messed with the wires that were attached to the plug until he cut the wires off of it. the plug went in to the factory stereo. someone was behind it before him though. it had/ has satellite radio ( serious satellite) but he didnt mess with that. AND there was NO constant power wire. only the power wire that has power ONLY when you turn the ignition on.

Cant, he cut the wires right at the end of the plug! and I dont know where the plug went! he used to install car stereos for a living. Im just really really hoping it is fuse. but I dont know where my fuses are.
usually you need 11 wires minimum. 8 for speakers, 1 for ground, 1 for constant, 1 for ignition, more if you have power antenna, dimmer, illumination, etc. ive been working on car audio/video as my current job for a while now. i would start with the basics, check fuses. after that, get a multimeter and check which wires are what to make sure things are connected right.

2000 honda prelude base model. with the ignition off the door locks dont work at all. with the ignition on, the door locks only unlock and then they lock themselves again. We found out that there is no constant power wire which is weird. There is NO visible antenna on the car whatsoever. ive checked the fuses both in the car and under the hood. the fuses are good.
