good coilovers?
i have an 89 crx and wanted to drop it and also gain awesome handling. i was looking at the ground control coilovers with eibach springs or the skunk 2 coilovers but i was goin to use my stock shock for now then switch to the tokico illuminas. has anyone ever used either of the two on their setup? my frind had the eibach springs on his 04 wrx and two of them broke in half in less than a year but i also think those were just the ''dress up'' spring for a small drop. any info would be great
all of the sleeve type coilovers are pretty much the same, they all ride rough and kill your stock struts really fast...i'd wait till you got enough money to buy the shocks at the same time

A good damper matters a ton
I agree, but all coil overs created equal is far from correct.
Be it sleeve or 1 piece. Look at G/C S2 sleeves OP.
Any Eibach spring is normally well made, it's very rare and odd to hear they broke.
If you are set on the iluminas and money is an issue i'd say them before the coilovers honestly.

Mostly the main difference is the way they do a locking perch s2 has 2 GC runs 1. Most people lean to GC, I've never heard of a problem with S2 and am more then happy with mine.
The reason sleeves get such a bad name seems to be the junky ones out there are super junky, run with no/poor upgraded shocks and slammed to hell. The avg buyer of a cheap sleeve pops his car down 4"s and expects wonders.
There are a lot of junky single coil overs out there too.

had a problem with that on my buddy's car... other then that the springs are very nice

Wait so are these things legit? Because they're like a third the price of G/C or S2. I'm assuming they're not as good but are they somewhat comparable? Because it would be awesome if they were.
EDIT: And where'd you find em for $90?

Sweet, what kind of shocks would you recommend? I'd heard good things about the gr2s, they're cheep too. Anything better thats only slightly more expensive?

theres nothing good to say about KYB GR2 or tokico blues.
buy illuminas, best value you can get.
as for adjustable springs aka coilovers, skunk2 and GC are worlds different. not only are the springs provided by GC made by eibach, they actually set you up with spring rates made for you car, instead of the whole product line up from a civic to an impreza. of course you can buy your own choice of spring rates and lengths as needed.
similarly, the sleeves are actually designed for your shock. for example, the rear sleeves have an unthreaded portion that will slide right into the rear spring cup of the stock and aftermarket shocks. this locks the sleeve in properly so it doesnt rattle around and supported. ive heard some ppl gripe about stripped bolts, but ive never encountered it. use the right hex key. i certainly prefer it over two locking jam nuts that easily get corroded.
however, i recommend ppl just get a set of drop springs from eibach or other reputable manufacturers. pro kits are nice, i loved them for the street and track fun. sportlines are as good quality i think, but too low quite frankly. if you just want to "slam" your car, then you dont have good performance in mind, so dont expect it.
but whatever. everyones out to pay the least but get the most in return. the reality is buying crap like ebay or skunk2 coilovers and cheap shocks like GR2 and blues may be less price, what you get in return is worthless. might as well throw your money away.

I've never had a problem or corroding on my skunk2 coil overs.
If you want to slam your car, get d2s, it's purple and one piece y0!!11!!!1

If you plan on keeping it at a medium ride height then go for the gr2's... they make for a great ride quality and like you said they are decently priced. BUT if you're gona get tempted to slam the thing get somthing better

well i just installed the skunk2 coilovers on my stock shocks and wow! these things make a huge difference. i have gsr 5's and falken rt615s on now and i can take corners better than my friends evo. the ride isnt that harsh either, but still will wake you up in the morning. i recomend these for anyone on a budget and want great handling. thanks for all the help guys

I can only offer my experience with my newly installed Illuminas and H&R OE Sports, on my 90 CRX Si.
I absolutely love them!! Better than stock in every way. Nice one inch drop. The Illuminas on the softest settings are a softer than stock ride, while still handling better, and on the middle settings is ever so slightly harsher than stock while handling, much, much better. I haven't seen the need to go to the stiffest settings at this point. I'm happy the way it's set-up now.
