i just painted my spare valve cover wrinkel red .. it looks awesome but i used chapstick on the letters, and some of it go onto the cover and off the leters .. so around the "honda" its a little chipped, whats the best route to take to keep the honda unpainted?

paint the whole valave cover, letters and all. after it has dried, block sand the letters. it will work because the letters are raised off the valve cover.

tape the letters off and use a razor blade to cut tape in letter form.

The best way to do it is to paint the whole thing then sand it. There is a thread on here, just recently in this forum, where a guy showed how to do it on a green valve cover.

just tape the areas around the lettering to protect them. Come on, this isn't rocket science here.

chapstick didnt work good for me either, taping the leters seems really hard to do .. i tried but it just seemed real hard to cut out all the little pieces

i painted over them and sanded them down ... it worked but i still got a few scuff marks on the valve cover

Vasoline will help. Paint, resin, etc...doesn't stick to vasoline. You will still have to sand a little.

You could of used a little laquer thinner on a rag before you threw on some clear. Simple and easy, just dont put too much on the rag
