Default new built motor problems.....

hey guys i just did a full rebuild on my 96 gsr and for some reason when the motor heats up something is ticking really loud. it sounds like valves. but do they get louder as the motor warms up? or is it something eles? i know its in the head. do i need a valve adjustment? the head was milled and hot tanked. make a diff?

probably your valves weren't adjusted properly. when engine heats up, the metal expands which is probably causing the tapping, valve clearances are out of spec is my guess.

An upgraded valvetrain has been known to make alot more noise from the head as well.

stock cams and skunk2 valve springs, stock valves yeah the only thing that is upgraded is the valve springs. oh well doing a valve adjustment right now see how it goes.

the only reason i say injector pulse is because it goes away completly when you touch the throttle...but the thing that gets me is you dont hear it when you first start it? you got me man

Wouldent stiffer springs make the VT louder? Since its more load that the cam has to push down on to.

just do a valve adjustment to be sure if you think that really might be it.

Quit be a lazy *** and check your valve clearances already. You've had like 3 people already tell you to recheck your valve clearances since you did the valve adjustment and you most likely did it wrong, have someone who's experienced do it and see how it comes out. Also, why did you install stiffer springs, do you actually plan on installing aftermarket cams?

Not my cars, i've used supertech, RM and S2 springs and my valvetrains don't make much more noise, I guess it depends on who does the valve adjustment since everyone's sense of 'slight drag' on the feeler gauge is different and will effect clearances.

Me lazy? i have done 4 valve adjustments to recheck my own work.

http://www.team-integra.net/se...D=485
followed that down to the tee.

Slide the correct feeler gauge between the cam lobe and lifter. For example, if your range is .006-.007, the clearance is good if the .006 feeler fits and the .007 feeler does NOT fit. If the .007 fits or the .006 does not fit, then the clearance needs adjusting. You want to make it so the smaller of the two feelers fits and the larger doesn't. Over time your clearances will likely loosen, I've never seen any case of them tightening so tighten as much as you can to fit that smaller feeler in.
Sound right?

yeah i do plan on putting aftermarket cams in. does it matter? the valvesprings were free. a gift from a friend.

I dont know what the problem but let me asure you its not the valves. valves would make more noise as the rpms went up i know. i have had my run ins with lose rockers. so unless you wanna give some imput that is helpful than dont post in here.

What makes you so sure it's not the valves, did you have the valves inspected or valve job performed? Were the valves lapped to ensure proper seating?

Who knows, like others have said, their car's made more noise after installing stiffer springs, your car might be the same way.

the fisrt quote was the first post. and now im pretty damn sure its not vlaves cause i have looked over everything. the valves did not make noise before i took it apart and i lapped them after how could it be messed up now? im gonna replace my lma's and see if that fixs anything.

When you rebuilt the head and installed the LMA's, did you soak them in oil while the head was being worked on, or at least before you installed them?

Like all-mtr-teg said, the lma's should have been stored in oil while the head was being worked or soaked in oil for a few minutes before reassembling the head.
