CR-V 2003 nothing on the AC works? Any ideas.
Took my daughter tonight to her karate class. Everything was fine. When we left I turned the **** to turn the AC on. NOTHING! The button lights light up, but no blower and no compressor engagement. Not in any settings. On the third **** I turn on the rear window defrost and that works. I tried putting on just the blower to recirculate the air and that won't come either. If the compressor was bad or something like that...the fan inside the car would still come on , but it doesn't. I've checked all the fuses and swapped out the relays, but I can't seem to find the problem. I've seen mention of the "black death" I think when the whole system dies, but if that is the case... then why is the blower not working? All the does is recirculate the air. That should , at least ,still be working?
Oh...my car only has 50k miles on it.

An update on my car. I spend the night surfing around and found out that some people had a problem with the blower motor resistor/transistor that sits in the housing of the blower motor. IT has a heat sink on it to keep the power transistor cool and is in the way of the blower so air constantly blows over the fins. The symtoms lead me to believe it was the transistor because nothing was working. If it would of been compressor crapping out....the blower would of still worked. I ohmed it out like some people mentioned on the net and it measured correct, but I was not satisfied with that. I called around and the dealer actually had the best price ($62.00)
I didn't want to take it apart because it's summer time and I needed to resolve this now. Didn't want the wife and kids driving around for days without AC while I looked around for the components in the housing - wHich some of the time is a thermal fuse or bad power transistor that is either blown or damaged. The part number for a 2003 CR-V is 79330-S5A-942. I bought the piece , brought it home and installed it. WALA!!!! My AC is working again. On the other threads I ran into they also recommend replacing the filters that are right behind the glove box for better circulation. I held off on that. I'll buy them next week. To get at the transistor you have to remove the bottom cover under the blower. It just pops off. Then You'll see a tan square connector located about left center close to the front of the molding , right behind the bottom of the glove box. Remove that connector and then with a short and long screw driver remove the 2 screws. The module pops out and you can do the swap. THen just reverse the way you took it out.
