Bought new car (new to me) need help identifying motor / trans
Like the title states, i got a new car, and i dont know what motors in it. To make it worse, im new to hondas and im having a real hard time trying to figure out which one it is. what can i look for?? what can i measure?? what can i do to figure out what motor that is?? Its vtech and it pulls way better than the 1.5
look on the motor and you will see a small flat spot, on the front left like 2in by 2in. it will have letters and numbers on it like b16, d16, h22, f22, something like that.
like what was posted above, look on the left side of the block right next to the tranny..which one looks simular??

beats me, I only ever saw vtec motors.
Like the others said, to the left of the header, a mark that that tells ya. if it isnt a stock motor, it may have some other marks from engine importers on there, but you can tell those aren't factory.
Also, your username looks like something used on a dating site, like eharmony or yahoo personals or something.

If it says just b16a then its a 1st gen b16 obd0. If it was an a1/a2 then it would have it on the block. the trans most of the time has a tag on it that says what it is.

take pics of everything you dont know that it is like the eingine. that little plaate with the enging code on it ( ie b16a whatever) and the oneon the trans and someone here on ht will tell you.
to find out if you have an LSD you'd have to take out the trans. Look through the section where the axles go and if there's a rod in that space then you a non-LSD. if you can see straight thru then you have an LSD trans
heres engine / trans stamp-

I have a JDM B16a out of an 88-91 integra, civic, or crx? right?? Along with a S1 trans that should have come from the same car??
I have an 89 civic hatch thats beat to hell, but has that motor and trans, and all new suspension, no interior, dash, heat, a/c, power steering... the guy really thought he was building a race car.
The price was right, it runs well (except for a surging/hunting idle that i havent cared to fix) and its fun as hell to drive.
chances this wasnt a motor swap? maby this is original, but the ecu wiring has been hacked to hell. that should be a pretty good clue that wasnt the original motor. anyone can glue on badges- yeah, it says si, but i didnt think it was a si, so whats the differnece between an HF, DX, EF, etc...

Look on the front of the cylinder head above the headers. You will see a a series of numbers and codes. Your looking for something like "PR-3" to see if that's the head that belongs on there. Also there are 3 or 4 sets of numbers, one being the year of the head. What are they?
Does your Civic have a sunroof? If it doesn't its not the Si model.

The head was cast in march 30, 89 and it is model # PR3-2. Also says 'HM'
Is that the original head? Whats HM?

No Sunroof. That was easy. And it has hasport mounts.

I think its the original head. HM is probably Honda Manufacturing, but I don't know.
You're engine could be from either:
89 Honda CRX SiR
89 Honda Civic SiR/SiR2
89 Honda Integera XSi (if it was made in 89)

badass. that means that the guy i bought it from probably just bought the motor and bolted it up. He sold it cheap cuz he couldnt figure out some simple problems- lots of play in the shifter- I put in the right sized bolt. gas leaked into the back seat area- i put a hose clamp on where one was missing, and the motor ran way too rich because of the oversize fuel pump he has on it- i turned down the pressure.
Im still deciding whether I want to keep it or if i want to part it out.. If anyone wants something off it, shoot me an email- juiceworththesqueeze@gmail.com.
