Never owned an evo but my buddy did put himself in debt for a while but had a 10sec car when it was running right. Its all on you besides the 3rd gear issue the si's are solid imo and the evos are fast but haven't met anyone that haven't had problems so if you always wanted one go for it but with modding any car be perpared to fix it as well. GL with either
its all on you, just make sure you can afford it. my buddy has a evo 9 and its fun, and alot faster, but i still enjoy my Si just as much if not more.
remember ur Si will get better MPGs, if that means anything to you.

Si is cheaper on insurance, gets better mileage (as pointed out), and is much more reliable. Short of the third gear issue inherent on most of the new Sis....their transmission is pretty much bullet-proof.
Can't really tell you how good the transmission holds up on the Evos cause I honestly don't know. But I do know that they are alot more "tuner friendly", can be built into street monsters, can handle alot of power on stock internals, and handle very well.
But they are also hella expensive on insurance and are gonna require more frequent maintenance intervals than any Si ever would. They don't make the best daily drivers so I would probably plan on having a small beater car to drive around in on the side.
All in all my vote is keep the Si. People often get sold on the Evos very quickly because of their performance capabilities.....but in the long run they start to take a pretty hefty bite out of their wallet unless money isn't a problem.

If you want more performance, get the greddy turbo kit for the SI. Be alot cheaper in the long run plus you can still have a car w/ good mileage and your insurance wont be through the roof.

I have a 2007 civic SI and a 2004 Evo RS. Both cars are great, Evo has excellent handling and power but lacks the elegance of the si..... IMO I think the SI is a better daily drive i.e. better gas millage cheaper insurance softer suspension and sound detaining. If you don't care about those features get the evo. Also cant forget the power windows and door locks...... but thats only the RS model

Elegance on an Evo? LoL yea right, maybe on the X. The Evo is a straight up performance car and nothing more. If I were to daily drive mine, I would absolutely hate it as it is very uncomfortable in drives longer than 2hrs. And if you're young with some driving records, I suggest you stay away from it because your insurance will be ridiculously high. The Evo can be made reliable just like any other car given the proper care and maintenance, but overall it's just expensive. So if money would be an issue, don't get it. Stick with your Honda

HARDLY! K series trans's are complete junk. A 2007 Civic SI sedan was just in last with a hole in the side of the case. How bullet proof was that?

"Bullet proof" is just a figure of speech. They're not literally that....but they are strong transmissions. You can't make an assumption that the transmissions are "junk" just because ONE driver decides to go off the deep end and tear his car up. Every car has it's breaking point.

LOL, I work at a Honda Dealer. K Series trans are junk. They do not hold up to the ways of driving compared to a B series trans. The OP had his trans fixed at my work a few weeks ago, the kid last week with the hole in his case had his trans rebuilt 3 months prior. He went to leave work and the car wouldn't go into gear, he put it in first and took off and the case split for no apparent reason.
There's no reason for you to get all mad because of my personal opinion of the k series tran's. I've seen my share of them(any where from 1-3 a week).
But honestly, Keep the FA or go buy an AP2.

Really?
Looks (IMO) - Si > Evo(looks like a horrible hot wheels experiment gone wrong)
Stereo - Si > Evo by far
Handling - Evo > Si
Comfort - Si > Evo
Reliability - Si > Evo
Cost of regular maintenance - Si < Evo (Si is friendlier on wallet)
Ability to make 15 year old fan boys get a hard on - Evo > Si
Driving performance - Evo > Si
Transmission - Si > Evo even with Honda 3rd gear issue
Gas mileage - Si > Evo
Fun to drive - Evo > Si for anything under 1 1/2 hrs (after that it flops)
These are the things I think about when I buy a car.
If you honestly can afford an Evo, buy a used base Corvette and you'll have a car that handles better, is faster, looks a lot better, gets better gas mileage and is much more reliable. You won't have room to keep more than one friend, but friends just spill stuff on your seats anyway.
Plenty of kids have Evos. Be original. LOL.

And I worked at Honda for a year and didn't see a single Si in for a defective transmission. Only thing a few came in for was for the 3rd gear issue and other minor cosmetic stuff.
