Default B18C starter question

I'm trying to solve the infamous Spoon FW grind issue with USDM Integra Denso starters. I found a shop that has mitsuba starters but the guy told me that they come in two sizes, large and small. He is recommending the smaller one which is from a JDM DC2 ITR motor. Is the JDM ITR starter the same as the USDM 99-00 Civic SI starter? Please help before I lose all the teeth on my fw. Thanks

Rob

go with gsr. replace mine with gsr including with the alternator (but used the itr pulley instead of gsr, diff.) alot cheaper using gsr parts.

I think you're missing the point, the Denso starters from the USDM gsr is what's causing the grinding.

For those who don't know, what he's referring to is the problem that USDM starter teeth/flywheel teeth are different from JDM starter/flywheel teeth, and if you try to mix and match it causes problems.

Do you know if any B series mitsuba starter is compatible with the spoon fw?

Sounds like any JDM b-series starter will work.

Does anybody know why they designed different teeth count? Maybe to get more torque becuase of the higher compression on the jdm motor?

I went and picked up the JDM ITR Mitsuba starter today. I installed it and did about 10 starts in a row with out any grinds. I'm pretty sure my stock starter would've ground by then. Success! Thanks.
