just wondering which section i shoudl pick it up... like for windows etc.. in the hardware store.. and i think i'm suppose to put a clamp on it also..

 

Ah if you're taking the filter off you might as well just stuff some mesh in the intake tube. If you're going to wreck your motor, you might as well go for the gusto!

 

Just one question....why?

 

just keep one thing in mind...your turbine spins at something like 30,000rpms...if something like a grain of sand or pebble hits it, you WILL shatter the blade. I would use screens only if I am on a dyno, or a very controlled environment like a race track...and only for a very short period of time

hmz, i dont know if i got enuff room to fit a filter.. i'm doing custom right now.. boy.. everything is packed

 

Take the mindset that there is room there, you can make it fit. If needed, use a length of flexible metallic piping to allow better placement of the filter. It sounds like since you went custom, you do not have any piping bent specifically for the air filter.

 

yea i guess i'm gonna run my filter.. but its ok to start up the car and run it for a couple of days w/o it right? because i need my car outta the garage i'm in right now by wednesday..

 

I originally took a drop-in K&N and cut out a section of it, flattened it, and clamped it to my inlet. This worked well for a week or two, until the filterelement got clogged and kept the turbo from spooling. After changing "filters" a couple times, I ended up taking the filter element out, and just used the two layers of mesh that were sandwiching it. I ran like this for almost 2 years without any problems before I put my A'PEXi filter on a couple months ago. Spoolup with the mesh was noticeably faster than with a "proper" filter, but not sucking fine particles into the engine is a good thing
