i got this intake snorkel from ebay last year and from the pictures it didn't look restrictive like the spoon snorkel but i didn't know that it wouldn't fit the stock hood. so i was going to buy the spoon style snorkel but decide to see if i could modify the one i have since i couldn't really sell it.
this is my first time at doing anything with fiber glass and this is want i ended up with. i'm going to try and make a gauge pod for my DIY wideband guage next. the silver tape i use is aluminum tape for AC ducting. the top of the snorkel match perfectly with the top of the hood to create the most volume. i tested this snorkel on the dyno i did not loose any HP, even gained a couple here and there on part of the graph. i didn't really expect to gain any hp, only hoping not to loose hp. i would even leave it on if it did loose a couple of hp because of benefit of cold air and increase engine response outweighs a couple of lost hp.

even if i cut the bottom of the hood, it still wouldn't clear. you need an aftermarket hood with a hump but i can't use aftermarket hood in my class.

i had to cut into the hood for my j's tsuchinoko intake - but i refinished the paint and also rubber stripped the edging so it looks like it oughta be there. Nice work on the fabrication thing though...
