Local Machine shop wants to charge me $800 to assemble my engine. im giving them all the parts as well

Umm, maybe I'm WAYYYY off here, but why don't you just give them a call???

 

at 100 an hour, thats 8 hours.

clean, measure, blueprint, sub assemble (block and crank, then rods and pistons), assemble, put on head, tq head, put in cams, adj valves. seems like a bargain if they know what they are doing.

all that at 50 an hour is still atleast 1000 im guessing, i have never really timed how long it has taken me to assemble an engine.

i will guess double j and stewart will be much more than that.

reading original post, depending on their ability, that may not be too bad for a short block.

$800 for the machining and assembly? I think that is a pretty good deal!

 

800 bones is not bad.

the place that did mine charged me roughly 450-500 for bottom end machine/assembly. that included bearings.

to have the crank micropolished and have it balanced allong with the rods/pistons/flywheel/pressure plate was another 350-400

 

I say have your block sleeved by laskey and give them everything and let them do it for you.
