Hi All,

I've been having this problem for the last year or so. When the car is cold it accelarates fine, but when fully warm, the car feels laggy and is very noticeable. MPG is fine so i'm ruling out the TPS. So th only thing left if the dizzy?

It's also noticeable between 2-3.2K and seems to "gasp" then go. New o2 sensor, new leads, full tune up.

Only thing left is the dizzy / injectors.

Any help appreciated.

anyone? When revving quite high then changing gears (esp 1st-2nd), car backfires also. Seems to do this more often in the last 8 months.

When was the last tune up? Spark plugs, SP wires, Dizzy cap and rotor, that sort of thing..

 

I have a 97 ex coupe w/ 88000 miles and it just started to do the same thing. I noticed when the car is at operating temp it lags so bad i hate driving it. You turn on the ac and forget about it, unless your racing the motor. If i drive aggresive then it runs fine. I've done the tune-up, the only thing i haven't done yet is valve adjustment and timing belt. (I'm trying to save up for a gsr swap anyways)

 

timing was checked and adjusted BUT* I never did this Service connector thing everyone is one about? No CEL.

Serviced 3K ago, New rotor, arm, cap, new NGK leads, fuel filter.

Spark plugs were also changed around 3K ago, BUT* I had a problem with my o2 sensor which has probably fouled them.

Valve lash was done around 13months ago. It's really weird, as its a day and night difference between cold and hot acceleration. I get around 33-36MPG so I doubt its the TPS.

Another thing I can think of is the contacts between the VAFC harness on the MAP sensor?

 

cold motor cold ambient (spelling owns me) air in the engine bay, hot motor you suck in hot air you will feel a difference its a normal thing

 

It's gone worse though, and this isn't just heat soak, seems a lot worse. Although I do notice it feels better when colder outside, but you can feel the lag then accelaration.

I have a 99 ex and i've kinda got the same thing going on that you do. It's got 107k on it, timing belt done at 95k, cap, rotor, plugs, and wires, less than 5k. It feels normal when it's cold, I know it's slow as ***** anyway, but once it gets warm it feels like I have 5 people packed in. The car goes nowhere until 5 grand. It just seems to be getting worse and worse. The valves are a little loud at start up, could a need for an adjustment affect it that much?

 

i agree, and it feels **** to drive and is definately not normal. I've ruled out the TPS too due to good MPG and voltage is in spec.

It's now down to the dizzy itself, valve adjustment and plugs.

I'll be doing the plugs this weekend and will keep this post updated but I doubt that will solve the problem.

 

get a cold air intake or live with it until you get all the money save for your gsr swap.

 

When I put new plugs in it feels fine and runs normal for a week or 2, but slowly it goes back to being sluggish. If I throw some new plugs in there, it gets back to normal. It's like its burning up plugs.??? If that's possible?

Let me know how yours feels after the new plugs and if they seem to wear out after a couple weeks. Maybe it's a dizzy problem or ignition timing? Mine was at a Honda dealer a couple of months ago and they said it's a good strong motor, so maybe it's just me, or like usual the dealer doesn't know what to look for.

 

Update* installed new IAT / ECT sensor and also valve lash adjustment, problem is still there.

Only thing left is the dizzy and TPS sensor. But I do get decent MPG (31-34). The TPS voltage reading is fine on the VAFC, i notice though, when i blip it quick, the VAFC doesn't read the throttle %, but if i feather the throttle it does measure the %.

could be a few things. Make sure all the grounds to the engine and trans are good. replace any that are a ? It is possable that the coil has a problem. Get a hold of a spark tester plug it in and test the spark when cold and when warmed up. you should have a nice hot blue spark on both test if not look at the ignition system. Did you set the spark plugs to the correct gap?

 

ground seem fine, in regards to the plugs, they are bkre6e-11 (vpower), haven't changed the gap on them.

I was thinking the coil as a possibility.
