Gear Indicator Light in Gauge Cluster
Anybody know if this could be replaced, or do you have to replace the whole unit?
The D3 indicator light in my gauge cluster no longer lights up and was wondering if I could just get a bulb for it, or I need to replace the whole uint in the rear.
I've removed the guage cluster before and know what the unit looks like, but I haven't removed it yet to see if I could replace the bulb.
Just wondering if this is going to be a 2 dollar job or a 20 dollar job.

I finally got around to doing this and it was a little simpler than I thought it would be.
It looks like a bulb that cannot be bought from an autoparts store so it seems like the only replacement would be your local honda dealership or your local wrecking yard.
I didn't do either. I just got creative and moved the bulb that would light up D1 and switched it with the burnt out D3 bulb.
I'm sure that there are plenty of threads that show how to remove the bezel of a 92-95 civic and how to remove the gauge cluster.
Once that is done, there is a white plastic panel that uses the green connector (for autos only, of course) that is held by two philip head screws. Remove them and slide the unit out. This can then be taken apart by lightly pulling on the tabs and taking the two white plastic pieces apart.
This should expose the board. You can then pry the board off of the front plastic piece (with the colored indicators that show in the front) and it should expose 7 bulbs mounted on elongated rubber bases.
If you got new bulbs, carefully lift/pry off the bulb (holding by the base, and not the bulb) off of the board and replace with new one. I just swichted positions on the ones that I had as I had no plans on buying the bulbs, or knew I could get them from autozone or something.
Before putting everything back together, connect the green connector, turn on the car and see if the indicator lights work. If everything is gravy, just put everything back together and button her up.
If you guys do happen to go to the dealer`the part number for the bulb is 78181-SF1-612 and is about 3-4 bucks per bulb. Not sure if this applies to civic models after 95 as their cluster probably uses different lighting method.
