Default **Fram SureDRAIN - Anyone try it out yet? - drain your oil with no tools**

Fram SureDRAIN - you can drain your oil with no tools, no mess and no hot oil on your hands

Anyone try it yet?
Does it leak?
Do you need to put lock tight or teflon tape on the treads when you install it to prevent leaks?

Check it out at this url:
http://www.autobarn.net/frasdseries.html

Price is only $14.95. It is about $12.00 at Walmart

http://www.fram.com has specs on it.

Like all SureDRAIN parts, this dust cover has been tested against leaks, corrosion, vibration and road damage.

It seems like an ok design.

I just put a fumoto valve on my wrx. It's a little more than the Fram thing, but if it's made like their oil filters, I'd pass on it anyway....

The Fumoto Valve is a great product.

I have a WRX now, but according to their info, F-106 is the correct part number. I'm not sure whether the Integra requires the adapter or not, so you may want to check into that.

Actually, I just installed it today. I live in Florida, so I haven't seen a real winter in years. but I wouldn't fear its design in the winter. It's made of brass, so I don't think the salt would have much effect on it. It's a well-known and well-respected product amongst the Subaru crowd - some have even rallyed with it without incident, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

It's a simple design, but it's very well made. I don't fear the lever opening by itself, but if you are truly concerned, a properly placed zip-tie will cure that.

No issues in ordering from the site listed?
Not at all. I ordered it on a Thursday and received it the next Wednesday via USPS.

I'm hoping it wasn't a bad idea, but I used some teflon tape on the threads before I installed it. You think this could cause any problems?

I installed this valve on all 3 of my cars.
no leak, no teflon tape needed.

Nice...I think I'll have to pick up one of those!

FWIW, all of the trucks I used in the Guard had brass drain valves for oil and tranny fluid and we never had a problem with them. The rest of the truck is another story....

but you are gonna get oil dripping around when you remove the filter anyways. If you point your catch pan right you won't have oil spill from the drain plug. I never have a drain plug incident eversince my 3rd oil change.

I've gotten so good at it I can usually remove the drain plug w/out getting a drop on me. Of course that stupid location of the filter is another story.

Seems like a great idea though. Can't believe nobody's thought of it sooner, or that it hasn't become popular yet.

I think the Fumoto Valve is better.. but for me I don't might turning the ratchet it only takes a little time to get that on and off.. I mean you have to jack up the car (since mine is so low) to get to the release valve and slip the drain pan anyway) the drain pan wouldnt fit under my car w/o jacking it up so I might as well slip under there and get my socket and ratchet and undo the plug...

the Fram Sure drain.. I sure as hell wouldn't pay $12 for it.. plus my friend bought it for $12 from autozone and he installed it and that POS leaked... damn is nothing fram makes good? he had it tightened down and it leaked.. tightened more .. still leaked.. it was a slow leak.. like every few hrs.. there would be a small puddle.. we wiped up the oil pan, plug, and everything around the filter and there was still a leak.. put back his old drain plug w/ a new crush washer.. and guess what? NO LEAK... fram Suredrain $12 for it

i'd rather just do it the old fashioned way w/ drain plug, drain pan and a new crush washer.. but if you really want one of those quickly valves.. get the Fumoto..

It's always a wrestling match to get my drain plug out...so I think a Fumoto valve might be a worthwhile investment.

GSRaCeRbOI, was the Fram SureDRAIN on your friend's ride torqued to spec? I am concerned about leaks.

Hmm from the looks of the 2 valves, I prefer the Fram plug w/ no external moving parts and also that cap that covers the hole during normal operation... but if it leaks, then

You guys also have to consider reduced ground clearance. Either valve is gonna stick down a little bit further than the stock plug. I for one would be concerned about hitting a bump just right and snapping the thing right off. I would say this issue seems to be smaller with the Fram dealie.

I already have a fat dent on my oil pan, so the possibility of smacking that thing on the ground is definitely real.

yes we torqued it down to spec.. it had a small leak.. we tightened it some more.. still had a small leak... he said F--- it and put back the old drain plug and a new washer.. no leak...

maybe we got a defective unit.. I don't know.. but he just said F--- it and took it out... the old method works.. so I'm not even going to try it.. I'm pretty strong so I don't really have trouble getting the drain plug out...

I believe the torque specs of the drain plug is in the realm of 30-40 ft/lbs.

It isnt THAT hard to get off? Why pay 12$ for something that could become a big headache when its easy as it is.

yeah I didn't leave out the possibility that maybe the one we got was defective/machined wrong or whatever... my friends leaked after we tighted it to spec and then some so he just said forget it...

as for me.. I can get the drain plug out w/o much problems and I have a big (wide/low) drain pan.. so positioning/aiming isn't that much of a problem.. I'll save my $12... plus I just bought a magnetic drain plug too.. so I'll just drain my oil the old fashioned way hehe...

drealboostedhybrid, I do not work for Fram. In fact I stop using Fram oil filters after reading the mini Mopar test on oil filters. Fram oil filters are junk!!!!!!!!!! I use factory honda oil filters.

I want to hear more testimonials from people who own the Fram SureDRAIN before I go out and buy one.

The oil drain plug does not point to the ground. It points to the rear of the car so I don't know why there is an issue with clearance. Go under the car and check out your oil drain plug location before spouting off about clearance.

Easy tiger, I have been under my car many times, and it does point down at an angle. As I stated in my earlier post, I think the Fram piece has less of a clearance issue than the other piece with the valve on it.
