"Competition" Radiator caps Vs OEM Radiator Caps
What exactly are the pros and cons of getting a "Competition" radiator cap like Skunk2 or Spoon from those of you who have used them?
these things put more strain on your cooling system. they put higher pressure, at 1.3 bar. i believe stock is 1.1 bar.

I'm not 100% on this, so somebody feel free to jump in and correct me, but I'm pretty sure the verdict is the following:
They're designed with a harder spring (higher spring rate) so that it takes more pressure to push it past the valve and go into the reserve tank. The reason being so when you increase pressure and temp when you run the engine hard (pressure goes up because of temp) it doesn't dump into the reservoir too early and starve your engine of coolant.
It's not needed...it's just a "joy" part, IMO, at least with a stock engine that's only revving to ~8500 tops - you hear of them a lot more on bikes when ur hitting like 15 or so.

Yeah, I say it's a fashion statement for most pple that aren't hitting high HP #'s.
