I am wanting to check my tranny fluid levels. I replaced the CV's a while back and when I did...no oil came out. I didn't think anything of it at the time, but after getting **** about maintaining my car...I want to check it now.

Can anyone give me some info (pictures if possible) on where the drain plug is located while the tranny is bolted on. I heard that if I unbolt it and nothing comes out...or if I stick my finger in and can't feel any fluid directly below my finger that I should fill it up..

Where do I add the fluid, and how much should the S1 take? Also, what do the different colors of the fluid mean? I have had the car since December, and have not changed it so I am not sure exactly what this is going to look like...

Also, what kind of tranny fluid should I use, and where can I get it (If it's just 80w-90, I can get that at my store..but if it's Honda..etc).

The drain plug is on the bottom of the tranny right below where the passenger side axle goes into the trans. It's a round bolt that requires a 3/8" socket to remove. The filler hole is above it, it's a 17mm bolt. It's about 6-8 inches above the drain plug, maybe more. My S1 took just over 2 quarts I believe. HTH.

 

What weight/brand would you rec?

 

Honda MTF, only comes in one grade or 10w30 engine oil, just no synthetic.
