Check your the brake light switch on the brake pedal. It may be damaged or stuck ON.

Friend of mine just had the same thing happen. There was a plastic piece that used to be in the hole on the brake pedal arm. I guess after years this thing finally wore out and broke off. Same symptoms as you. We fixed it by putting a nut and bolt in the hole. The head of the bolt now pushes in the brake switch and shuts off the lights. Just make sure that the bolt head isn't too high and tries to push the switch in too far. We had to do a bit of grinding to get the clearance just right.

Nice improvised fix. I don't know what the cost of a replacement brake switch would be.

It wasn't the switch that went bad. It was the plastic/rubber thing that goes into the arm that actually makes contact with the switch.
But yeah, if you get a bolt head that's too high you CAN break the switch and then be in a completely different situation.

See the little black plastic piece abover the blue dot? That's more than likely the culprit

It's friggen 9PM on the east coast. Grab flashlight, work on yoga techniques to get your head under there to look, prove me right.
Takes all of about 30 seconds.
