steering rack woes

Default steering rack woes

ok i need some advice on what could be wrong with my steering rack.i can take and turn the wheel 1/4 of the way and the wheels start to turn and when im in a corner and hit chatter bumps my wheels do not respone with my steering wheel(say im turning and my wheels start to turn when i hit bumps but i cannot steer out of it as turning the steering wheel does nothing.......and ideas?

it almost sounds like the knuckle at the base of the column is loose or something maybe?

Have you looked over your balljoints and bushings?

no i havent,i think the rack is just going to ****,its really bad.

Have you adjusted the rack guide screw on the steering rack?

i'm guessing you don't have power steering
be honest it's one of two things either it's the ball joint where the spindle meets the lower control arm ,or it's the tie rod end ....you didn't give enough info so i can't tell you which side but when you go down the street let go of the wheel for a second which ever side it pulls to inspect that side

check your power steering fluid then test your pump you'd be surprised how many times people came in thinking something was seriously wrong and there fluid was just low
