HID's in OEM Integra lights
Hey quick question, If i buy a nice set of HIDs and just put them in my factory 01 integra housings are they gonna look like ****? Are the factory lenses considered projectors?
Yeah, they're projectors, but with a pretty weak lens. I had this setup with 6000k HID's for a bit, and it honestly wasn't that bad. Recently did a TSX retro though, and I'll never look back. It's better then stock, IMO, but don't expect OEM HID output.

All 3rd gen Integras have halogen projectors.
However, the problem with stuffing a HID capsule into them, is the beam pattern.
The stock lights were designed to spread the 1000 lumen output the stock bulbs produce over a reasonable spread. When you suddenly have 3200 lumen output from HID, you have 3 times the light, but none of the true benefits of a proper HID headlight. HID headlights are designed to make use of the extra light through a wider beam, with less of the light focused in the center than a halogen light. Too much light directly in front of the car actually makes it harder to see, due the larger difference between lit and unlit ground.
I would only bother with HIDs with a proper HID projector retrofit. With the stock projectors, a 9012 HIR bulb (or modified 9005 bulb) is about as much light as you can actually use, and is significantly cheaper than HID.

YES. Please do not do this. It is illegal, unsafe and looks horrible. I want to take a baseball bat to every one of those PnP HID's on Civics, Integras, Mustangs, etc.
And there is no such thing as "nice" plug and play HID's. Get yourself a nice set of retro-fit HID's.

I borrowed my friends HID kit and put it on my 99 integra and I was impressed. I thought it would look like crap but really it looked good. It was just like stock but brighter, the cutoff was still there. I don't know why everyone hates...just borrow someones kit for a night and try it yourself.

OEM HIDs from other newer cars are just as god damn bright as any plug and play kit. Those [freak]ers nearly blind people too!
But if you can't stand seeing bright lights on the road, it's a good thing your pupil will automatically adjust to your lighting conditions, fools. DON'T STARE AT THE LIGHT IF YOU AREN'T GOING TO DO ANYTHING BUT BITCH ABOUT IT, lol.
Stock reflector headlights + PnP kits aren't nice at all though.

Please buy a real HID kit and please dont try to do it yourself. im so tired of being blinded by people driving the other direction because either they didnt know what level to put their lights at or they dont realize the driver side isnt supposed to be the same level. Im with the guy with the baseball bat, Im not only hitting HIDs though Im hitting all the trucks too, being blinded by the car BEHIND you sucks.

Well you can check out the sponsors here on h-t. If I planned on getting an HID kit their is a friend I have on myspace who posts bulletins like on the daily about the work is garage does to try and get buisness. Id probably take it to him if I wanted HID... but Im not a fan of HID... no point.
If you want I can send you that guys contact from myspace, Ive seen cars he works on, I mean if its really his work Id vouche for it for sure.
Im just sayin lots of people try to retrofit, that being done means your guesstimating the levels for the beam where as someone in a shop or someone whos installed them a lot might be a lil more knowledgable in the level of light, see that its high intensity, it should be the only beam NOT shinning upwards cause the simple fact that its MORE intense. but people dont care they blind people, its annoying though.

I had the philips 4300 plug and play kit in my integra a while back. I was very impressed with the light out put and the cut off, but there was still a slight glare. I ended up doing a retrofit and with the projectors I went with (cadillac cts projectors), it wasn't a huge upgrade. The only thing that was eliminated was the slight glare.......here's what my old plug and play looked like.

Haven't taken a pic with the retrofits yet.

i love my plug n play kit. got it on here from operatic. here is the link. these lights are bad *** and easy as hell to install. plus come with long enough wires so you dont have to cut and extent like some other kits.

you were impressed with poor, very narrowed beam pattern?

Wow, sounds like he knows his stuff.
Why doesn't he put in his ad that his product is illegal for on-road use? I bet his buyers don't know that.

Retrofits are illegal also...If you're really going to get technical, most of the things we do to our cars are illegal for "on-road use". Looking at it realistically though. HID's in a reflector housing are unsafe, and warrant the legal issues. HID's in an OEM halogen projector are less effective than OEM HID's, but are less of a safety issue because they have little glare beyond what a stock bulb or 9005 conversion would have. If they want to have a narrow beam and less output than say a TSX, then let em! It's still an improvement.
As I said above, I have a TSX retro in my Integra, but my prior PnP kit was just fine. This is just one of those never-ending debates...
