Default which rpm vtec start kicking?

I went to Honda dealer yesterday to test drove Civic Si sedan.
It feels like vtec starts kicking when rpm goes to 6k rpm.
It did not really pushing me 0 rpm to 6K rpm.

Compare to my 05 accord, runs pretty fast and vtec start kicking after 4K rpm.
does all civic vtec starts kicking after 6rpm?

or maybe because it was a brand new car? or break period?

someone correct me if I am wrong!

i believe the cam starts to change over at 5800 but with the rpms that high you actually feel it at 6K.

you also have to consider that the tach is a little off the higher the RPM's get.

The switch point occurs at 5800 RPM. There is a slight drop in power when this happens followed by a rapid power increase (as i'm sure the OP has no doubt observed).

During that split-second that the cam is switching over, the rpms have already hit 6K which makes it seem like that's the point where it kicks in. But it's really 5800 RPM.

Kicks in at 5,800. But you need to remember the engine redlines at 8,200, which is higher than your Accord.
