I have a set of these Denso Iridium IX plugs - would like to use them and I was wondering what gap do I need to set them for my soon boosted H22A running 6 PSI?

I figured I would use them if I could, since they are brand new and just sitting on the shelf... I searched and came across many posts that said .030 gap for regular plugs so I would like to even confirm if it is the same for Iridium plugs as well and also if it is okay to use them...

 

Most iridium plug models will recommend that you not gap them because the center electrode is very thin and brittle. You run the risk of damaging and even snapping it off if you apply any direct pressure to the electrode. That said, iridium plugs can run a wider gap than normal plugs while using less voltage and providing the same spark, so typical gaps for copper plugs might not be the best for iridiums. I would recommend selling your iridium plugs and picking up several sets of coppers of the appropriate heat range so you can gap them to your needs without fear of ruining them. NGK copper plugs work great, and their low price point means you can change them more often without breaking the bank, which also gives you a chance to keep an eye on how your engine is running.

like inspyral said, iridiums arent supposed to be gapped. more than likely you wont have any issues with them with the factory gap, as they provide a stronger spark.

if you are running the oem ignition on a turbo car there isnt much of a reason to switch.

 

iridiums are great, ran some for 20k on boost, i had to re-gap them but it was fine.

Though, I'd avoid the densos. Seems a few different models of cars have had catastrophic engine failure due to denso iridiums, f20c1 being one of them.

Hi Mike - Well I must have been mistaken because I just checked and I actually do have NGK Iridium IX - ZFR6FIX-11 in my H22A right now so I guess it should be good to go when the turbo setup is complete.

BTW, what gap setting do I have to set these plugs - Iridium plugs are not hard to adjust if you are extremely careful
