Copper head gasket
Mine didn't seal properly, and right now I'm pulling my head back off( I was getting blowby into my coolant and overheating)...do I just need to soak that sucka with copper spray or what!?
All you have to do is re-anneal it with a propane torch. Clean it with solvent and a "Scotch Bright" pad to remove any old residue prior to and after annealing. Heat the metal until it appears just dark red while you are in a dark location [so you can see the gasket when it STARTS to glow]. More red or orange is not necessary. When you put it back together use a liberal coat of "K&W Copper Coat." You can use this stuff on every gasket in your car [except rubber].

The aerosol works best and won't dry out in the can.

I had a friend that had a copper head gasket, it leaked just like that. Someone told him he had to o-ring the block. Not sure, those things suck, use a factory.
Thanks for the suggestion there, but I think I'm going back to an OEM head gasket for now. I'm going to do a small build up on another D16Z6 with ZC pistons etc with a Zex cam, and I'll use the copper gasket on that- I will use some good ARP head studs or new OEM head bolts also for proper sealing. The head gasket was only on for 500 miles, so I'll just clean like you said, and use it for the other engine. Thanks again!!- I already pulled the head yesterday. I heard about O ringing the block too...it sounds like there's too much involved for a stupid head gasket, and for what I'm doing- tiny build up on Z6, it's not worth it. Thanls again

I was told that you can't run antifreeze in there with those metal gaskets. Try it with just water before you pull the head.
