i think this already has been posted? not sure tho... well powerwise i think a CAI will be better than a short ram probably about 1hp difference in a good short ram that is... but with a CAI you have the chances of hydrolocking..i just had a CAI in my ITR and i changed it to the stock intake arm with a velocity stack and K&N filter and it kind feels better at times and no more hydrolock fear!

3" ITR CAI + velocity stack. That's what I'm running and It's cool.

Short ram + cold air is the best.

Those AEM long-tube CAI's make decent power, but they kill your throttle response. Plus, there is always the chance of hydrolock.

hydrolock, After 82,000 miles with mine and many different types of weather I have to say BS unless the operator is a dumbphuck and aims for a deep *** puddle.
CAI, maybe reduces throttle response, but who goes half throttle anyway?
Oh and with mine, I can still achive 37mpg!
<--- Did i mention I was drunk tonight

I think this whole hydrolock thing has been blown way out of proportion. Maybe if you park your car in a swimming pool, but normal driving conditions while avoiding the beach and you'll be perfectly fine.

No it isn't. It is very real. I work at a dealership. I'd say I see a ricer's car come in a a flatbed from a hydrolocked engine from a CAI at least 10 times a year. That's just what I see on 1 lot. Imagine now how many other lots there are and they are probally seeing the same. Just because "a few" hadnt had the problem doesn't mean it isn't real. I wont run a CAI for this very reason. MUGEN FTW!!!!

Agree'd... there have been 2 cars recently... a Civic Si and an RSX both of which had CAI's and both of which hydrolocked the motor... and ended up buying another motor. It's a very VERY real thing, and especially in places where it rains a lot, or the drainage isn't very well there is a BIG risk, even flash flooding of streets in a matter of minutes happens down here in FL.

Yes the hydrolock syndrome is no laughing matter. Ever seen the carnage of what happens? Not very pretty.
I got caught in a torrential downpour, saw a bad pot of water that I couldn't avoid so I hit the clutch and cut the engine off. That water hole I believe would have been the death of my motor. No more CAI's!!!

the itr aem 3" cai with a velocity stack and k&n filter works awesome, and you can always cut it in half so that you can have a short ram for the rainy days

i personally had one of my cars hydrolocked due to an aem cai on my old gsr, i let my friend borrow my gsr for the night while i borrowed his em1. he gives me a call after its been raining forever saying the car just quit on him, ha ha NOPE he had no idea about hydrolock problems even though his car had a cai, so he went right into a huge puddle and ruined the top and bottom end

I got caught on an old former horse and buggy trail in my R once during a flash flood with my AEM CAI!

I shat a turtle

Went up on a curb with the passenger side to elevate it and bawaadadadadaadaded all the way thru about 6-8 inches of water on the driver side.

Bought a whale cack soon there after.

3" intake pipe, BPi velocity stack, K&N intake... Best damn bang-for-the-buck intake I've ever owned.

See my thread a few posts up.
