Piecingmy 600RR back together - Which bodywork direction to go?
In my post from a few weeks ago it was obvious to see that my bike was thoroughly beaten with an ugly stick. At any rate, I am nearing the settlement with the insurance company and I'll be getting a decent amount of money back to repair my bike. So, do I convert to track plastics or go for an OEM or OEM-style bodywork kit?
My riding at this point is split 50/50 between track and canyons. I'd like to keep my bike street legal (head/taillight) which makes an OEM-style kit more attractive at this point. Or do I buy a three or four piece race fairing kit and mod it to fit a head/taillights?
I've been reading review after review of OEM-style kits from Auctmarts1, Calicarsandbikes, etc and I'm stil unsure about the fit and finish. I've also been reading up on the better race fairing kits (Hotbodies, Armourbodies, etc) and there are just so many choices in that direction as well.
Do I take the chance with an OEM-style aftermarket kit or jump over to race skins? Post up your suggestions for OEM-style or race plastic kits.
A few OEM-style kits can come in the Rothman's replica

i'd go with a prepainted livery if you want to stay street legal. Otherwise, for track only, i'd get a set of catalyst/attack/sharkskins, paint it simply, and be done with it.
Stick with abs, because in my experience track bodywork needs a lot of prep work to get it looking good for a decent paint job.
A friend ordered a set of abs fairings off ebay from Hong Kong (the $400 sets) and I was impressed with the quality. Just make sure you put heat resistant foil, or something heat resistant, on the inside of the pieces because I have heard that they will melt near the headers

Billy,
I have Sharkskinz on both of my bikes and like track-style fiberglass very much. Not only is it lighter than OEM, it's also much easier to take off and put back on.

I've heard similar stories to this about the OEM-style kits. Do you have any pictures of the imperfections/melting?<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Jasper_db1 »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Billy,

I ride the RC on the street occasionally, once a week perhaps but I did daily it with the Sharkskinz for about a month last year. No issues at all. The only lighting I had was a Hella 90mm HID projector. I've since replaced the HID unit with a lighter and smaller H9 90mm projector since I don't plan on riding it on the street much.
The YZF was a daily commuter. For lighting, I'm using the Hella 90mm HID projector and a Hella 90mm H9 projector as a high beam. I've also got PIAA auxiliary fog/driving lamps. I may switch these to LED similar to what the new Audis have.
I'm in the process of painting the YZF this week so I'll post pictures of it soon.

Billy - in case you're interested.

Looks to be Catalyst Composites bodywork which rates right up there with Sharkskinz. It could use some work but its cheap
