2001 Prelude won't stay running
Hey, New to the forum, but i heard this is where i should come if i'm in need of answers. I looked Around for a while but couldn't find a good answer to my question.... hopefully i didn't miss anything.
Anyhow.... My 2001 prelude had been running relatively well ( drove from ct to Florida, and back with no major problems) then a month later shes not running right, got the alternator replaced and everything seemed fine for a while.
one night on my way home she stalls out and i got a friend to jump start. I ended up having to jump start the car 7 times on the way home,( less than a mile) before getting a truck to tow it.
I should mention, the car is not quite stock anymore, and with the engine bay being quite packed with turbo etc.i didn't have time to get into the 3-4 hour project of geting at the altenator as it wouldn't come out nearly as easy as when stock. So i paid a mechanic to do it. He was kind enough to leave the wires resting on the turbo and they melted through a bit. I cut the bad parts out and re-soldered the wires, shrink raped them, and put heat tape on.... Didn't fix anything
Right now its sitting in the driveway and will run fine when the battery is still attached to the jump vehicle. But less than a minute after the jumper cables are detached it sputters a few times and shuts off. The air fuel ratio gauge is reading 16, which made me think the alternator should be OK... maybe not though.
The USB S300 manager won't recognize the car anymore, radio won't turn on, clock isn't there, but everything else works.
Anyone have any ideas for me? What are the chances of my new alternator being bad? Voltage Regulator? Short somewhere?
Thanks in advance for any advice,
-Jon

try charging the battery, see if it will run longer then. If it runs, put a voltmeter on the battery while it is running see if you have over 14 volts. If not, either you've got a bad alt, or the connections are still bad.
edit: Just saw where you are-If you need a hand let me know

I had a similar problem with my 91 prelude....turned out to be the negative terminal connector wasn't making a good connection....scraped terminals and replaced negative connector, everything was fine after that....turns out the alternator wasn't getting enough juice from the battery because of the corrosion and broken piece.
