Default stock jdm itr bottom and toda spec b cams

Im wanting to install toda spec b cams and have a stock jdm itr bottom end. I am going to use supertech dual valve springs and titanium retainers. Do you think the stock valves will be ok it has about 60 or 70,000 on it ? If not i will use the supertech valves. What size fuel injectors should i use ? The motor is completely stock as it sits besides a whale ***** intake and exhaust. Is a high flow fuel pump necessary? I plan on using hondata to tune it. Oh yeah and i was reading about the cams and they suggest you use their valve springs and cam gears do you think it matters ? I'm open for suggestions .

1) stock valves should be ok. i have only used stock valves in all of my applications and ive never had any issues. the springs and retainers are what you want to worry about. if you go with aftermarket springs and retainers, make sure you think about buying new ones at about 40-60 thousand miles. they wear much faster than oem, especially when using toda b cams.

2) i would go with 310 injectors. the tuner can always use the extra injector, but it is not necessary in your application. same with the fuel pump. its just nice to have if you plan on bigger builds in the future and its only 100 bucks.

3) they only suggest that so that they can get you to buy their products, imo. ive never heard of one company's springs and retainers being any better than the others. i know, by talking to a mechanic at skunk2, that their new pro series springs and retainers are good for about 60-80k miles. again, depending on the cams and driving style, routine valve adjustments, maintenance, etc..

thank you for your help ! I didnt think a was going to get an answer. Do you think my motor would still be reliable with the spec B ? Would the spec A be more reliable than the spec b. I want to make a cam upgrade but i dont want to put cams in and not get much out of the upgrade. I want to be able to tell a difference in the motor after its all done.

with any toda cam upgrade you will notice a difference. the good thing about cams, once you have the necessary valve springs and retainers, is that you can switch them out with different cams, tune and dial in the cam gears within a few hours.

i, personally, have no experience with toda cams. i have heard a lot of things about them though and the one thing that is consistent with what i have heard is that the cam lobes are pretty big. big duration, big lift. its all in what you want out of you motor and what fits your driving style. i have used skunk2 stage1 cams, stage 2, pro1, and pro2's. the a is essentially a stage 1, spec b is essentially stage 2, and spec c and up are insane.

another point to consider with toda is that the majority of their products, as far as i know, are designed for the mid-range power associated with road racing and auto-cross.

Toda b's work well on those motors but you will need some sort of tuning to take advantage of them such as Hondata, Neptune or Crome etc. Reliability isn't about the cams you use, it's how you put the motor together and how you tune it. DO those things right and you shouldn't have any worries.

well I have a friend who is a mechanic. He has built several honda motors so it will be put together right. I plan on using hondata to tune the setup. I just want to be able to drive when ever i want and not having to worry about it tearing up. I want more power and there is no since in rebuilding the whole motor when the bottom end is in good condition. What about compression do you think with a thinner head gasket ant flat faced valves is sufficient ? Do you think its not needed ? Maybe just the head gasket?

using that bottom end and a b16a head, you'd be at about 11:1, GSR head and you'd be about 11.3:1 which is still adequate for those cams. The most I would do is use a 2 layer headgasket and tune away.

i would go with a 2-layer head gasket as well. thats what i plan on doing when i decide on what cams and valvetrain i want to use.
