Default 11.8 compression ratio okay on Phearable chip?

I just finished my P30 piston job on my JDM B18C1. This will yield around 11.8 compression ratio. Will I be okay with a chipped JDM P30 ECU with a phearable.net custom program?
*I know Neptune, Hondata, etc. with dyno time is always better. Don't bash me.

It all depends on what basemap is programmed on the chip. If you dont know, DONT run it. Have a known good basemap made for your car then use that to get it to a tuner as soon as possible.

No, it would not be ok unless you like to risk your time, money, and efforts.

I can't drive with the phearable map(program for my mods) even just to break it in? What type of damage can it potentially cause?

Was the chip designed around the current compression?

If not then I wouldnt do it.

Do you realize how easy it is to ruin your motor? If the chip isnt supplying enough fuel then the motor can run lean, too much timing , too much fuel, etc.

Why risk your motor ?

a timing table can look good to the eye but react differently once its running the engine, especially with systems like Crome and other honda based maps.

Don't be dumb. Tune the engine from the get go, if you can't afford tuning then maybe you should have thought about that before you built the motor.

I would not attempt to break in a motor based on someones guess. I'm telling you exactly what I have done and continue to do.

I can vouche for his "chips." As long as they are made for YOUR motor, I would not hesitate breaking the motor in on it. My roomate had one in a LS/V, 11:5~/Pro1 and the motor ran surprisingly well. The guy knows what the hell he's doing.

X2,
John made me a chip for my stroked gsr, about 11.6:1 CR, w/ 91 octane. I didn't get a chance to get a street tune right away and drove it for about 300 miles. When I finally did get a street tune, my buddy was really surprised how good the chip was. He hardly had to do any adjustment w/ hondata.

Like clean rice said, as long as it's a chip for your car's mods, you should be good until your tune.

It's wierd how everyone says every motor is different and that everyone's cars should have a specific basemap for their car. Well why is it then that all stock ecu's are okay for factory motors? Do all factory cars require different basemaps then even though they have the same parts?

I believe what John does is collects your info from your order form, then finds a basemap from his database with the same mods and sends you that basemap. Therefore 2 cars with the same mods will run on the same basemap fairly decently, at least until you get your own tune.

John if you read this please correct me if I'm wrong

That's what I was thinking. I have already gone ahead and specially ordered the chip from phearable.net .
all-mtr-teg, I'm right with you brother on the OEM cars with all the same ECU

You won't be disappointed, John does great work and his customer service is great I had ordered 2 ecu's at the same time, he refunded my some cash for a discount without me even asking

You were leading everyone to believe that the chipped ecu was one from before the setup was put together.

If you ordered the chip , built to the setup that you have now then there should be no problem

well if you start up on a chip, and if it runs rich or too lean... it can wash out your rings?

one question that i have is. Yes its ideal to take it to a tuner to get it tune right away,

but dont you yourself need to start it up check for leaks and such and such before

taking it to a tuner? What if you never started the fresh motor, you took it to a tuner

and it doesnt start?

You hit the nail right on the head without knowing it. They are built at a factory, where 3 to 4 yrs of engine development had gone in to the design before it hit the streets. Those factory basemaps are tested for 1000s of hrs on a engine dyno and subsequent 1000s of hrs during the cars developement. They are tested under many, many conditions for a very specific build. Can the same be said of a tuners basemap. This is not a slight against anyone that sells basemaps. John, in particular, knows what he's doing but he will tell you to get you motor tuned for the best results.

I just finished putting together my poorman's on some Wiseco 12.0:1 compression pistons. I just sent over John a complete copy of my build (all the way to the flywheel which was overkill but whatever) he called me a few times, we've been on a phone call basis. He says if I need anything don't hesitate to call him. He told me I should be able to drive my car (break-in etc) on his basemap without any problems. So I would do the same.

He said it would be fine to not be able to bring it in to him right away, but it's something I should think about, but I have basically two setups. The one I'm running now, and then after I get a new intake manifold, cams, header, injectors, and an intake I'm going to take it all over to him then. So I say drive it but don't dog the hell out of it without it being tuned. Even with forged internals, your risk is definitely washing your rings. Then you'll be F'd.

I'll adjust it with my VAFC if rich or lean.
Obviously I'll check for leaks

a vafc doesnt necessarily work for part throttle, idle.

so in my case what would you do? i have my motor that is just been put together. I have nothing to start it up with. I want to start it up to check for leaks and all that make sure it starts, BUT BUT i dont want to start it up with a wrong ecu...but i dont want to tow it to a tuner and have it start and leaking everywhere, or not starting at all because of minor small bugs, if you get what i mean.

Phearable.net and order a complete ecu for your mods. should be around $150.

its most likely fine to at least start the motor and check for leaks as long as its not a stressed out motor (high comp, big cam)

your chances of detonation at startup on a basemap which was created by someone who is sane is literally almost zero with no load being applied. Doesn't mean it will idle or even start tho on a basemap, which is the nice part about having the tuner there from the get go.
