coolant shooting out the resevoir???
My car is acting really funny. I turned it off the other day and heard something shooting out like an air leak or something so i popped my hood. I opened it to find that my coolant was shooting out a bunch of air and some coolant into my resevoir. My coolant is a little dirty if that helps. What exactly does this mean? Car still runs fine and all... ??
Was the vehicle overheating when the coolant was shooting out of the reservoir? The easiest test would be for combustion gases in your coolant which would indicate a blown HG. The radiator cap opens to allow the pressurized coolant into the overflow. It also opens to allow that same fluid back into the radiator once the vehicle has cooled. The cap was venting the hot coolant into the overflow but it was pressurized even after exiting the radiator. This points to a HG issue unfortunately. hth
hey so im new here and im sure this has been asked but here goes have a d16y8 in my 98 lx car runs amazing lots of power no smoke no smells no leaks but my coolant back pressures upper read hose to the point ive blown one ive changed water pump tstat twice rad cap twice and just did the rad from what im getting from reading its starting to sound like a head gasket but i dont get it cause it runs mint lots of power no white smoke etc it has cold air intake throttle plate header 3inch exhaust and has a g-force chip
Take the radiator cap off.
Start the car with the hood open.
Rev the engine a little.
If water shoot out the radiator, you need a new hg.

Pulled into my garage yesterday, heard something like water bleeding out of something. Opened the hood, saw coolant under the hood, coming out of top of the overflow bottle. Car did not overheat and it was about 96 degrees yesterday, drove it 28 miles from work. This morning, the coolant level in the overflow bottle was down between max and min lines. Anyway, tried the method below. When I took of the radiator cap, coolant spilled a little as it was full. Reved the engine, saw some coolant flowed out over the rim of the radiator but nothing shooting out or up. After the first rev, I really had to rev the engine up to see a little coolant flowed out of the radiator rim. Checked the oil and it's good. Could it be HG or something else? Thanks
