My mom's 03 Accord EX is down about a quart of oil every oil change. The car is a 5spd has 81,000 miles and was bought certified used. About 3,000 miles and it needs a quart. The engine is also not accelerating smoothly. At WOT the engine seems to have minor stumbles from idle to about 4,000RPM like inconsistent torque . Overall it lacks power and has bad throttle response. *The flex-pipe/resonator that is right after the header is torn and leaking (the braided housing has separated from the flange) I am guessing that the majority of the power and acceleration issues are do to this but the oil loss also has me thinking valve train ( Valve stem seals ) or piston rings. I have looked very carefully and cannot find any oil leaking so the engine must be using it. There is no CEL.

Has anyone heard or had of any K24 oil eating problems??

As far as Honda is concerned 1 quart in 3000 miles is not excessive consumption. There is a Service News about it somewhere.

1) Does the oil get changed on the car regularly or is your mom a slacker.

2) Pull a plug and check for oil fouling. It can't be running to poorly or it would throw a CEL.

3) How does your mother drive? Like a grandma, like a ricer?
