Default JDM heart transplant for the BB2

Hey guys, never posted in the prelude forum before. I am a DC2R owner, but this prelude came my way in need of some serious attention. It needs lots of love and some real work, but here is some progress into my project.

Got this car about 2 weeks ago. It was blowing some serious white smoke, indicative of a bad head gasket. I compression tested the motor with some bad results, and took it to honda for a second opinion, which was the same as my own. They suggested a cylinder balance test, and quoted about $1600 to "start" repairing it. So for $900 for a JDM H23, and $150 for shipping. Im gonna fix her up and sell it. Thought some of you might appreciate this.

*ill post updates as they happen, im sure ill need some questions answered from you guys*
*BTW chrome fender/door kakka is coming off ASAP*

The chrome is hideous.
While you have the engine out, paint the whole car, and bay a unique, but good looking color. Someone ill be willing to pay even more to have a custom paint car, especially something as rare as a Prelude. Maybe Electron Blue or Supermarine Blue.
That is, assuming you can afford it. Good luck on the swap though. H23 isn't a bad engine, it's just not as strong as an H22, in performance and durability. It's very torquey though.

By the way, is the Teg a genuine USDM Type R or is it just a converted?

$900 for an H23 is a rip off and a half. If only the headgasket is the problem, just replace it.

Maybe some chick will think it's cut and buy it from you. She probably won't care as long as it looks good and runs right. If I were you, I'd target to sell it to a chick cause we need more Lude chicks, especially hot ones.

As for the Type R, I've never seen a real USDM Type R live, just a few JDM versions at Nopi and a few swapped or stickered normal DC2's. I'd probably never own one unless I just got an amazing deal, but they're badass cars when done right. Type R isn't a bad platform to start off with.

not sure i completly agree, for a few reasons, i didn't want to take the head off and get all the machine work done. It wasnt just the headgasket. I appeared that there might be some rod knock, or worse on the bottom end. I have limited time with this car as well.

there is more to the story also. This car was driven from Idaho, to AZ. As a purchase a family member made "sight unseen" from a "friend", I had the option to rebuild the motor or replace it. I dont have the time or the space for that. They were going to pay 1600 at the dealer (or more) or pay the 900 from handamotorsonline.com. and have me do it, and sell the car. This is the easiest most productive route for me to go.

Ill find out exactly whats wrong with the motor this week, Im gonna take it all apart.

Nice. Any internal work?
And a Prelude is still too fast IMO for a teenager, unless they really are a pefect angel. My 4th gen was my first car, and I did everything my dad told me not to do, lol. Which included modding it and taking it to the drag strip.

So you're just going to get the Lude running and ditch the chrome? How's the interior?

the R has Skunk2 valvetrain, bronze guides ETC. Just waiting for some JUN cams damn, i mean money.

the ludes interior is really good, a little fade on the rear seats tops, but the dash and everything looks great. especially for a 92

there is also some wiring connections im a little worried about.

f.y.i, it's easier to unplug the wiring harness at the shock tower and hook everything up on the motor while it's still out of the car
