Default I think I have a lemon, please help

OK I have had my si coupe since summer 2006. Love the car to death, blah blah blah.

So here's what's going on. First of all since day 1 my airbag light has been on. Taken the car to honda twice now, they can't figure it out or haven't figured it out.

At around 46,000 miles the car's clutch completely went along with the flywheel. I know it would easy to say I don't know how to drive a stick but I have owned a bmw 528 and 535i that were both stick and I had no trouble with either car.

Finally, my power steering has gone haywire and pulls hard to the left before going out all together. When I took the car to Honda, they said it was because of the tires (they said they were scalloped) and that I needed an alignment. A day later I am driving the car and the same problem occurs. I take the car back to Honda and they are now saying it's a faulty power steering computer.

My question is 2 parts: a. In your opinions, does my car constitute a lemon. b. If not, are the power steering issues covered by the powertrain warrentee.

Thanks for the help,

Drew

My friend that I used to work w/ had the same problem w/ the airbag sign being on. She took it to the dealership had them fix it and would come on again. She claimed it under lemon law after speaking to a lawyer and they refunded everything back to her.

the clutch isnt gonna be covered since its a normal wear and tear item. if u dont have the extended warranty, you're f**ked. cuz the basic warranty is 3 years or 36k miles whichever comes first

Gotta agree with you guys here. Wear and Tear items will not be a factor in lemon laws. Things wear out, its what happens with age and use. Now I'm not sure if it's the same across all the states, but I know in WI you have to present the problem to the dealer and provide them an opportunity to fix it. The dealer has 3 opportunities to fix the problem, and if the car comes back for a fourth time, the emon law is then in affect. (This was at least current as of a couple years ago, I'm sure it hasnt changed much.) So As previously staed above, your sort of out of luck on this one.

Not everything is allowed when considering a lemon law application. If you complain about a trim panel coming off and the dealer tries to fix it three times you don't get your car bought back. If you have a car that tries to drive you into a ditch and the dealership can't fix it by the fourth visit, you can be considered for a buy back.

Honda stands behind their product. They are actually a good car company. Not all dealers represent Honda in a way that reflects that, unfortunately. It seems like your problem is with the Honda dealer and not American Honda. I would contact customer relations and tell them about your problems.

Right now this would be the second time I have taken the car in for this power steering issue. Honestly I really, don't want a lemon. Although this is burning a gigantic hole in my wallet, I am absolutely in love with the car.

I agree about the dealerships however. In my experience with Honda, I have been to 4 dealerships. Three were completely ****. Right now I'm at Herb Chambers Honda in Boston because it's close to school, but I'm pretty sure that the service managers have no idea what's going on with my car. Every time I call they are either busy, and then don't return my call. And when I get them on the phone they have no idea when the car is going to be done. To make matters worse they keep asking if the car was in an accident (it wasn't.)

The last thing is that right now they believe that the whole computer that controls the power steering is faulty. Does that sound right? To be honest I am not the most mechanically knowledgeable guy, but if this doesn't fix the problem I don't know what will.

And yes, I bought it new.

Thanks for the help. It's very appreciated,

Drew

Just heard back from the dealership. It just got a brand new computer to control the power steering unit. Really weak, and I am now ~850 more in the hole.

Otherwise happy to have the car back.

Again thanks for the help,

I'll let you guys know if it keeps up.

had i been you, take the money, ditch the power steering and use a breather setup and if the srs shows up? change the steering wheel and get a airbagless mugen one... theres your 850$ right there, but you would have that much more fun driving it
