Default Choosing a Cold Air Intake

I got an 06 Accord Coupe 6 Speed and I am considering adding a cold air intake system. My car has a J30A5 motor and I wanted to find the best intake system for my specific engine. I found these 3 intake systems and was wondering which one you guys would recommend. Do any of you have any of these systems installed?

The Injen is pretty much the best bang for your buck, but the sound of the AEM V2 is nonpareil.

Would you recommend the AEM V2 over the K&N 69 Series? I am looking for better sound. I hear the AEM V2 runs quieter???

I don't know about cruising/normal acceleration sound from the KN, but when I bought my Accord v6-6 with just a V2 it was dead silent, until I opened it up, and it sounded beastly. The V2 is the most expensive thing out there, if you're looking for only performance, I would get the Injen. If you're looking for good performance and sound, without caring about paying a little more money, get the V2. If you are paranoid about hydrolocking your engine(I've driven through two feet of water in my Civic and it didn't hydrolock) get the KN CAI that can be changed into a ram air.

When you say hydrolocking do you mean that water will get into the motor? Also, what Injen are you referring to? Thanks for the help bud!

Yes. Basically hydrolocking an engine means a cylinder takes in more water than the size of the combustion chamber, meaning on the compression and powerstrokes the engine is toast, or in the best case scenario the rod bends, because air compresses, but water does not. The AEM V2 cannot use a bypass valve, like the original AEM CAI did. The filter sits right behind the bumper, meaning it isn't very difficult to submerge it in water. The Injen CAI is right up there with the V2 as far as being the favorite intake. It seems like anybody who mods their Accord v6 has either one of those two, I don't really know of many if any guys that have the KN intake.

I had the cold air AEM original, it was nice. I did sometimes worry about hydrolock, but the water has to be like pretty deep to have it happen, but i've heard stories of hydrolocking otherwise. I would say the best brand trusted quality is K&N, preferably the typhoon bc you can convert it and it's the only short ram system for the 3.0L v6, but cold air is def better than short ram. But, i'd say K&N is priced high, and Injen is overpriced. The V2 is way too pricey, it's double or even triple of the original cold air, when in fact they all do the same work/performance. No matter what intake you get, you'll only get a little boost in performance, and never as high as 10-20hp gains. Probs 4-7hp

All cold airs work the same, all short rams work the same.

I am continuing my research on which intake to get and I am leaning towards the short ram k&n...I found it for about $250. Plus, I keep hearing about hydrolocking and it being hard to install on an 06 accord ex-l 6 spd. Oh...and apparently its just as good as the cold air?? The only concern I am having is idling and fuel consumption. I read a few guys who put these on the fuel to oxygen mixture got messed up and they #1 say it makes their car idle too low when stopped and its choking and #2 they say the fueld consumption is WORSE??? whats up with that? is the computer not supposed to automatically adjust itself? And what are your thoughts on me going with a short ram...honestly, I want it primarily for the better sound then hp...can barely hear my motor now. Need that beastly sound!

I was wondering about that my self (ECU recognition for intakes on Hondas). I know next to nothing about tuning and am wondering if it will even make a difference without a tune or chip. From what I've researched, a tune is necessary.

I've read that if you disconnect the battery and press down on the break (for 15 seconds or so to take out any remaining juice in the chip) the chip will reset itself when you start it up. I have yet to confirm if this is true. Heard anything like this? And if you had to answer what would be the best performing intake for a 2005 Honda Accord V4, which intake would that be?
