Default Fuel door won't open!

I bought an '08 Civic coupe about 5 months ago. I've slowly started to notice that it was slightly more difficult to "pop" my fuel door. It pushed really had and I usually had to push it twice for it to work. I thought it was just me being a wimp or something...
But then the last two times I've gone to fill up my gas tank I haven't been able to get the door open. It takes like 5 minutes of me pushing the lever like 1000 times and opening and closing my trunk before it will finally pop open.
Has anyone had this problem before? I know I need to take it in, but I live pretty far from the nearest honda dealership and don't want to waste the gas driving there until I get my oil changed (probably another 3-4 weeks).
Any suggestions? I'm thinking maybe I should just take it in now and get my oil changed early...

when u get the door popped open have someone work the release while u watch the cable to see if its moving freely. if not ur prob going to need a cable.
if it is u prob can adjust the part of the door that holds it shut, just give it a little tweak one way and test it out.

put something on the lever so it holds it down then go and open the door by hand.
