oil consumption during break in

ok so ive searched and got NO ANSWERS. how much oil is normal to be consumed during your break in period? is it normal to be blowing smoke during idle within the first few hundred miles?

some oil consumption is normal. too much means your builder [freak]ed up. i consider more than 1qt per 3k miles too much.
