DUPLICOLOR METALCAST? need help achieving anodized look
well i am trying to use the purple color on my lip on my older rims-
the rims used to have a polished lip-
but i didnt realize that the metal has to stay shiny for it to look anodized-
with out thinking, i sanded the lip with 320 grit so the paint would stick-
but when i sprayed it, the paint just came out looking like normal purple paint
i heard that you can use the "base coat" they make, which is just a metallic silver, and spray the purple over it.
does they really give an anodized look?
anyone have an idea of what to do for this dilemma i have?
thanks alot!

it really only works on bare metal thats shiny. i used it on my roll cage and it came out good.. so u can try to paint them chrome and then spray over it with the color but i dunno how good it will work...
well i did this to my rims lip and it turn out great, the best way for u to have that anodize lip is to wet sand ur lip since u already sand it wit 320, work ur way up to 400, 600 and 800 wet sand paper then after that use some kind of polish like mothers to polish it out than thats when u can start painting it, when u paint it use adhesive promoter, its a clean primer for the anodize look then after that use ur anodize paint and it should turn out clean

Using the adhesion promoter does not work.
I've anodized a complete set of wheels by just sanding them and polishing them by hand. Key thing prior to spraying them is cleaning them with alcohol or paint thinner.
Once thats completed then you can start spraying the wheels/lips and then add a engine enamel clear coat for protection.
Ill show you pics of my work soon.

hmmm,
so when you clean the wheels with alcohol or paint thinner, is this AFTER you polish them?
does cleaning them with either one of those things remove the shine that the polish gives?

my other prolem is:
i had trouble stripping the clear coat off the lip, without having the stipper leaking onto the gunmetal paint on the spokes (i did tape it off, the stripper leaked through)

no it doesnt bead up at all, the adhesive promotor like i said is a clear primer, once u spray that on let it sit for a couple of min then spray ur anodize paint...as u see tha picture above its a picture of my rim and thats tha outcome
well,
i tried out the ground coat they make-
well that stuff sucks!
my question is, if i polish the lip with mothers aluminim polish, can i spray the adhesion promotor right ontop of that?
b/c i know the mothers gives a surface that is very repellent towards water-
if anyone knows, let me know.
