i have a 1990 accord, 2 door automatic that is shifting very hard threw out driving at times it shifts fine at times not. do you all think that if i get the tranny filter replaced that will fix the problem?also on this car when i give the car gas it has no pick up at take off,but when it gets going it will run great,dont get me wrong if i stomp on the pedal it will go but i dont like to do that.the car is free of any oil leaks,overheating etc. etc. any and all feed back will be used.thanks alot

 

For the tranny, use Honda ATF-Z1 for the fluid. I used to have harsh shifting with my 96, but after the change, shifts soooo nice. <3 it. =P

For performance, there's lots of things. Maintenance is one of them. Have you done any on the car? Tune-up?

Change your spark plug, wires, air filter, clean out the EGR ports, clean your TB. Look in the Accord FAQ for more info on maintenance.

yeah when i bought the car thats the first thing that i did is give it a real good tune up,plugs,wires,cap,rotor,ignition coil,all filters except the tranny!this was all about a month ago.now im going to try the fluid you refered me too.thanks alot.by the waY is it compicated to change the tranny filter?

 

I think changing the tranny filter requires you to remove the tranny from the engine. I will say that is complicated. I don't know about the tranny used in the 90's Accord but there is no cover or pan. It's one complete housing.

 

where do i purchase atf-z1?i checked oriley and nothing.they act as if they never heard of such.

 

also you can add a can of lubeguard for imports (red cap) if the unit has hier milage......

 

i think the only place u can buy atf-z1 is at honda... dont hold me to it tho, but i'm pretty sure thats the only place

 

Yea I forgot to mention that. Sorry. Its a Honda product. I think its around high 6 to around 7 dollars a quart. You can safely get 3 quarts? Worth the money.

 

i would suggest draining the trans fluid and refill also, i done this when i first got it and it did help
