Installing axle...
I just had my passenger side axle rebuilt. I went to install it on the car and had trouble puting it on. The reason is seems that the inner part is hitting something inside the transmission the big round part doesnt get to close to the block is it supposed to be? In other words, how close should the big round part of the inner of the axle be to the transmission?
Very close, from eyeballing it, I would say around 1/16" clearance between the big shaft wall to the tranny case.
You need to get the c-clip on the axle to pop into the groove in the diff. I usually use the axle's momentum to pop it into the groove.

It seems as if its hitting these 4 teeth looking things

This doesnt look right either. The passenger side that enter the tranny is way bigger than the driver side

thats how my DSS axles look like when they are installed. Just hold the inner part of the shaft with one hand and the other hold the outer cv and push. should make like a clunk sound when its in.

If you have that gap as pictured, then it is NOT in.
I think I understand your situation, when they rebuilt your axle, did they use a new inner hub (the piece that has the spline to go into the tranny)? I think they may have used an incorrect inner hub which is getting stuck at the outer edge of the diff preventing the spline to go all the way into your diff.

I can't remember exactly, but the half shaft spline and passenger side spline have the same hub diameter (not the spline itself, but the hub the spline is on. i think you know what I am talking about since you pointed it out in the pic)
if you can wait till tomorrow I have a new passenger side axle and I can measure it to make sure you have the right length. i'm too lazy to get it out of my back seat.. just too l ate. why am i even up? oh yeah, cruising honda-tech when i was supposed to be posting on craigslist. haha
in the picture the axle and splines look pretty dry, try taking some thick grease and put a thin coat on the axle splines and that area, ive had trouble getting axles to seat properly and usually a little grease helps them slide so the clip sets properly
as bb_one said, it may be a different inner hub, count the splines and perhaps try matching it to a known prelude axle.
hope this helps

Thanks for the help guys. Im not sure if they did change the inner hub. I am going to drive over and have the match up with another prelude innner hub. That inner hub is hitting the 4 tooth thing DEAD ON. The way it would make sense would be that the inner hub would be the same length as te driver side one. Cause i tried the driverside on the pass side and it goes in all the way.
bb_one it would be great if you can measure it.
Thanks again everyone.

I had the exact same problem with my swap. Turns out for em it was a tiny about of slag on the smooth part of the axle shaft. When i say tiny i mean TINY. like less then .010" just enough to grab a finger nail on. I tried another axle and it went in like butta.
Good luck
Good luck
"my9thtry" is saying that on the smooth part of the axle there was a tiny imperfection from maching, welding, etc... that cause the round part to have a small raised chunk of steel on it, therefore not allowing the axle in the hole
was the spring clip reused? i swapped one from an old axle to a new axle and thats what caused some problems for me getting everything mated up. the clip was just too out of round so i had to adjust it a bunch of times before it would compress enough. the tolerances are too tight for it to be much out of round. check out the clip
I find that many times I have to compress the axle by hand once it's lined up in the hole and smack the end with a hammer a bit to get it to pop in. Make sure you put the axle nut on the end (inverted) so you don't mess up the threads on the axle.
It should just take a little finesse, not a sledge hammer or anything. Works for me. Good luck.
